Title: How to not haul the Christmas pies Post by: Redline + on December 26, 2018, 04:29:16 PM Twas the afternoon before Christmas, and after working a half day (on the hotrod), I wandered outside to such a beautiful sight. Blue sky, sunshine, dry roads and 50 degrees... hmmm... I've got a Valkyrie that hasn't been riden in months!
I walk into the house for a bite of lunch and check preparation progress for the upcoming Christmas Eve dinner. The house had that heavenly smell of roasted turkey and all the fixings. Things were looking good, the wife and granddaughters seemed to have everything under control. But wait... where's the pies? After inquiring, the cooks informed me with all the other deserts we didn't need any pies. DON'T NEED ANY PIES... it's Christmas! I was also told if I wanted pies I would have to go get them myself... hmmm. So... after a quick bite of lunch, I back the Valk out of the garage where it's been parked for a couple months. Took a bit of cranking to get fuel to the carbs then lit off and idled perfectly. Short ride up to the Safeway, didn't like the looks of their pies, to short of a ride anyway. After riding around for awhile and flushing the carbs with fresh fuel, I found some suitable pies. I'll have to admit, I haven't hauled pies on the Valk before and really wasn't prepared. This trip was more about the ride than the pies anyway... although the pies were a close second. I had cleaned out my saddle bags sometime back and removed my bungies and netting for some reason. So I just tilted the pies up on edge and slid them into the saddle bags and headed for home. The pumpkin pies survived the trip well, the fresh lattice top peach... not so well! I had to do some patching and rebuilding and wasn't real pretty when I got done, but it tasted just fine! We had a great dinner with family, hope you did as well. I occasionally stop at a local Greek restaurant, and get their pizza (better than most all the regular pizza makers). On the bike, I have them cut it up and put it in Styrofoam take-out containers which lay flat in the valk bags. We'll have to remember to not send you out for dessert at Valhalla next year though ;D
I almost got out that day as we had the same perfect sunny skies... except that it was a couple degrees below freezing and the roads down from our place were covered in frost most of the day. Lisa and I had the best Christmas in years, with both daughters and son in laws at our place all together for a couple of days :cooldude: Happy New Year to you, Linda and family... and all others on here too.
