Title: Front brake Post by: pais on July 15, 2019, 02:24:35 AM Recently, within the last 2-3 weeks. I am hearing, when I apply the front brakes an odd sound. Loud enough I can hear it as I come to a stop and when I apply the brakes slightly while riding down the road. Yesterday I had a passenger with me. I asked her if she could hear it. She said she could, said it sounded like a jet. Please don't ask because I don't know where that came from. It sounds to me like a low frequency electronic buzzing/humming sound.
Anybody ever experience this before? Over the five or six years I have been part of the VRCC. I have never read about anybody mentioning this. I will admit I have not searched. Title: Re: Front brake Post by: Chrisj CMA on July 15, 2019, 03:44:24 AM Organic brake pads will make that sound. Some have reported it does settle down a bit after a couple hundred miles. If the noise is new and you haven’t just replaced the pads then I’m at a loss for what it could be.

- a noise they make when you're using them hard in the turns, especially when they've got new pads... - a noise they make when they're near worn out and the little clip on the pads gets to where its edge will squeak to warn you... -Mike "the second noise quits being subtle after not too long :) " Title: Re: Front brake Post by: Tfrank59 on July 15, 2019, 07:37:08 AM I think I made a post about it a few years ago when I was running the organic pads. I said that they sounded like chirping cicadas. It's a good thing I have talk to text because I wouldn't know how to spell that word otherwise ;D. For me I don't think the noise went away until I changed over to other pads
Title: Re: Front brake Post by: Paladin528 on July 15, 2019, 12:36:09 PM EBC brake pads on the front brakes will sound just like cicadas when the brakes are applied. My best guess for this is that the EBC pads have 2 "Pucks" on each pad and not 4 like the OEM Nissen pads.
Thise cuts between the pucks allow air out from the holes in the rotor which is heating up. Since it remains trapped in the hole just a bit longer it "pops" when the hole becomes uncovered. The OEM and Vesrah Pads do not do this. This is just a theory but EBC pads did this on my shadow as well as my interstate. But the OP would probably know to blame his pads if he had just changed them... -Mike Title: Re: Front brake Post by: pais on July 15, 2019, 02:45:32 PM Two subtle front brake noises I'm aware of: - a noise they make when you're using them hard in the turns, especially when they've got new pads... - a noise they make when they're near worn out and the little clip on the pads gets to where its edge will squeak to warn you... -Mike "the second noise quits being subtle after not too long :) " I think you are on to something Mike. Also the Ciccada sound is dead nuts on as a description. I have not changed the pads since owning the bike. There is a box of OEM pads sitting on the shelf waiting for me to change them. I've been procrastinating to say the least. I've had them since April 1 of this year ??? Better speed up the pad replacement job. I've read a few times, I don't want to have to replace rotor$.
