Title: Powdercoated wheels - who's done it?
Post by: Bagger John - #3785 on August 13, 2019, 08:21:58 AM
Thinking about getting a spare set and having them finished in gloss black to match my I/S.

For those who have done it - was the inside of the rim coated too, or just the outside? Partial coating, or doing the entire wheel?

I'm leaning towards leaving the edge of the rim exposed and coating the rest for a contrasting look, but if coating the whole thing is better I'll go that way instead.

Curious to hear from others who have done it (Big Poppa Pump and RDKLL come to mind).

Done it. Turned out great.
Entire wheels were done (including under where the tires mount).
Obviously the bearing pockets, threaded holes for brake disc, and dampener pockets were masked off.
Mine are gloss black with metallic flake added.

Any issues with air pressure retention/leak-down compared to "stock" (raw aluminum) condition?

Nope no issues there. Have run through two Avons on the front, one Avon on the rear and she’s currently weearing an Austone taxi tire on the rear.  No leak-down problems. Hona OEM stems.
