Title: New rear tire
Post by: flsix on January 30, 2020, 09:38:39 AM
Well crap......I opened the garage door and saw a screw in the middle of the rear tire and it's loosing air. This tire has about 25K on it and still has better than half the thread left. I'm just not comfortable doing any type of long rides with a plug or patch on a machine when there are only two tires to rely on. Four on a cage ...no problem, but not on the bike.
It's a Michelin Primacy MXVY  205-60R-16. I've been happy running Dark Side with this tire and am considering going that route again.
Does any of our Fl. gang have an opinion.......yes I know the quote :crazy2:.....on their recent experience with a car tire. Any recommendations good or bad are gladly received. Thanks

Hey Jeff

Like you, I ran the Michelin Primacy and thought it was a great dark side tire then went to the Yokohama Avid Envigor  and huge difference in the positive way.
I would highly recommend the Yoko  :cooldude:

Jack is Yokohama the same width as the Michelin you had? I'm debating on going with a 195 instead of the 205.

Jeff, my Yoko, same as Jack's is 205, I like the Austone better maybe because of the width, if the yoke came in a 195 or 175 I would go that route but for a 205 the Yoko is a great choice.  Others on the tech board have found some interesting tires that are yet to be proven.  Keep us posted

I'm running the Yoko 205/60 16.
Not sure if they have a 195

Anyone else with a recent success story running dark side?

Been running a 195 for a couple years now, can't recall the brand but couldn't tell the difference in handling compared to the 205 it replaced. Right now I'm not riding....can't find chains to fit in back.

John you need to do a few modifications to that rear fender to accommodate chains ;D

Nick are you running the same one as Jack?

Lesa has one on the back of hers as well.
I am about due for one due to age of the tire. May go that route as well but would like to see what is out there first.

I am running Yokohama Avid Envigors on both machines. 205/60 16 on the Valk, and 195/55 16 on the Harley. Since the Envigors became unavailable, I have selected the Federal 595SS in like sizes for the replacements if I, indeed, wear out the ones I have on now.

My supplier said that the Yokohama in question is no longer available.  >:(  Maybe I'll go back and see about another Michelin.

Are these Yoko 205/60 16 Car tires that fit on the standard factory rim for a 2000 I/S? im getting the tow hitch receiver mod for the tagalong wheeless trailer/trunk i intend to carry my camera gear around a lot maybe occasionally pull a trailer too. What wheel would be best for this?

Yes they will mount to your IS rim. You may need to do a little work on some fender nuts if I remember correctly. I think you might have to thin them down for side wall clearance.
If you do a search here you'll no doubt find the info.
