Title: Ignition on wire
Post by: Whitey on March 18, 2020, 02:05:04 PM
Hey guys just wondering if  any of you have ever spliced into the ignition on wire for a accessory? If so have you had any problems? Thanks!

Why use the ignition switch. It has a job and there are better places to hook into.

There is an accessory plug under the right cover. It's only 5 amp, but you can use it with a relay if you need more power.

there is a spare connection on the Start relay.  you need the correct connector to add a wire it but is is a good place to grab power from if needed.
I needed ACC power to trigger my amplifier when the ignition was switched to ACC.  I used the +12V power lead that is meant for the CB from the connector under the right side cover.  Worked like a charm

Is the acc plug on all bikes, I thought it was the IS only? (I've only had an IS)

The accessory leads are on all 1500 Valkyries, which is turned on when the ignition is in the "on" position, fed by the 5A accessory fuse.  The Interstate has an accessory position for the key, which powers the audio system (and maybe other stuff?) from the 5A audio-meter fuse.
