Title: Trans noise Post by: SNARLEY.WING on September 06, 2020, 12:56:36 PM Have noticed a noise whining noise in 3rd and 4th gear when in lower gears on windy roads or slow traffic when I go to 5th the noise goes away is this normal for the trans on these bikes or is a service or further inspection needed

Both of mine have the transmission covers which makes it whine louder especially in 3rd and 4th gear. When they quit whining it's time to worry. Helps to muffle the noise some.
Title: Re: Trans noise Post by: jnicks01 on September 08, 2020, 05:19:22 AM I have the tranny covers and the full hanger covers. I threw some thin dynamat type product on the insides. It's amazing how much quieter it is. Took just a medium size sheet that I got on amazon for a few bucks.

Honda HP4 (non-moly), Golden Spectro Semi or Full Synthetic are what I've stuck with using in my Valkyries - and I've tried a number of different oils in 20 years/5 Valks of ownership. In my experience, they make the F6 shift very smoothly in comparison to others. Haven't tried Royal Purple or Motul (yet) but some people swear by them. As far as whine...if you want whine, go find an old, serviceable cab unit EMD locomotive that's powered by a Roots-blown B-series 567 prime mover. Open the service door, step inside the engine bay near the alternator then have your buddy sitting in the engineer's seat put the throttle into Run-8. I ran it for years, until I was priced out of it. I tried Amsoil 10w40 MC oil and was impressed with the reduction in noise (no idea what the previous owner was using). I was more impressed with the improvement in shifting. I actually decided to become a dealer for Amsoil. Now, kind of like Frank's Red Hot, I use that #### in everything!
