Title: Oil Post by: ~ Ron ~ on March 23, 2021, 03:35:14 PM If you put 3.9 Qts of oil in, how much is left in the 4th Qt?......23 ozs or 16ozs?

If this is a real question, then you have 0.1 quarts, or 3.2oz; less than 1/2 cup.Title: Re: Oil Post by: rug_burn on March 23, 2021, 04:07:27 PM And it's also okay to overfill the oil a little bit... It'll just be that much longer until it's low.

Title: Re: Oil Post by: Jess from VA on March 23, 2021, 08:23:36 PM If you run the bike hot before draining, and if when draining (filter already off, and pull both the fill plug and the dipstick off) you get on and lean it over to the right and hold it for a minute or two after it's just dripping (make sure the pan is still catching when leaned), then it will take the whole gallon and be centered up perfectly on the dip stick. (I always put down a garbage bag under the pan.)
It does for both of my interstates, every time. Of course, you have to run it some after the change to refill the filter, then let the oil settle again.... before checking. And checking is done with the dipstick in, but not screwed in. (If you are still a mm or three high on the dip, it's no big deal.) The service manual is very well done, but just every once in a while, I find something in there that seems to be aimed at idiot-proofing maintenece work. I think 3.9 quarts is one of them. Title: Re: Oil Post by: h13man on March 24, 2021, 06:43:53 AM I'll put this out here, you can use the "longer" filter such as a #3323 Bosch and not worry about using all 4 qts. :cooldude:
