Title: Some spend time on Tik tok, I can spend hours in Zillow! Post by: _Sheffjs_ on May 11, 2022, 03:48:45 PM Ok go ahead tell me I have issues in my head but I am fascinated by the interiors of homes and the differences in all respects. But now tell me what is happening in this country, can’t anyone take care of a home? How can so many let their house get like this? https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/716-College-Ave-Iowa-Falls-IA-50126/86954767_zpid/?mmlb=g,9 (https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/716-College-Ave-Iowa-Falls-IA-50126/86954767_zpid/?mmlb=g,9)

The neighborhood seems good and the structure looks solid. Doesn't look like a crack house, not enough damage. Could have been an elderly resident that had no resources or relatives to keep it up. Title: Re: Some spend time on Tik tok, I can spend hours in Zillow! Post by: Jess from VA on May 11, 2022, 04:40:16 PM I'll bet that's been abandoned a long time (for whatever reason).
My grandfather built his own home, and it took him years to complete (he built as he earned, during depression times). It was a simple home like in your Zillow add, but it had loving care. I went there every thanksgiving (7 hr drive) with my folks. Well, eventually everyone died and it got sold, and 20 years later it looks like a decrepit old crack house. I looked it up a while back (on Zillow) because my mother and her two sisters were born in that house, with midwives not doctors. And I had many memories of it growing up. I always wonder why it is not fixed up to live in. I have done a lot of clean outs. Pretty much looks like the photos.
da prez When our home went on the market , the home inspector had a hard time writing anything up. Title: Re: Some spend time on Tik tok, I can spend hours in Zillow! I would also agree it might have been an elderly person who just couldn’t keep up with things. We have quite a few old people that come here and have no family near nor the money to hire things out. The neighborhood seems good and the structure looks solid. Doesn't look like a crack house, not enough damage. Could have been an elderly resident that had no resources or relatives to keep it up. I don’t tick tock or Zillow, but I do find myself watching a lot of people making hot sauce and pickling vegetables on YouTube. :) Title: Re: Some spend time on Tik tok, I can spend hours in Zillow! Title: Re: Some spend time on Tik tok, I can spend hours in Zillow! Post by: John Schmidt on May 11, 2022, 07:11:29 PM You all know the mess I was tossed into following Rita's death and how the sale of the house was so important to her kids. They only got approx. $80k after all was covered in the sale. I recently looked at the house on Zillow, and looked at other homes in the 'hood. A lady down the street tried to sell her house a couple years before Rita passed, was asking $389k and got no bites. They did nothing to the house, didn't need anything, yet she sold it for $500k last fall. My home for nearly 30 years is now valued at over $550 without improvements...it's 40 yrs. old and needs attention. I couldn't afford to take care of Rita and spend money on the house as well, but did my best. A house down the street built at the same time ours was and almost a copy recently sold for over $600k. Just think, if her kids had let me stay for only five years and do some updating, their split would have been more than three times what they got for being greedy. I estimated recently their cut would have been closer to $170k, maybe more if the market keeps going nuts like it is. As for me, with the sale of the house I benefitted roughly $13k more than they did so I made out fine...coming out totally debt free after all the years mof paying for stuff not covered by insurance and paying off the HELOC to boot. Only drawback, I freeze by keester off 5-6 months a year.
