Title: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Post by: Rams on January 17, 2023, 07:05:49 AM Anyone run this tire?
Shinko 230 Tour Master Front Tire (150/80-17) Not going to try and BS anyone, looking at this due to price. I've been running the 888 Metzler but, that price is just not within my reach now. This tire would be mounted on my trike, I don't push it in the twisties. Mostly interested in how many miles it can handle. Rams Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Post by: 3W-lonerider on January 17, 2023, 12:55:15 PM i've run the shinko on the front of the valk trike. never had issues with them and i normally got 10 to 12 thousand out of them. get a rear tire that closely matches the front wheel size. reason being rear tires have 3/32 more tread on them. also bias bly tires work better on the front of trikes than radials.
Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Post by: msb on January 17, 2023, 01:22:57 PM I've just mounted a new Shinko on the rear this Winter. I just couldn't justify my cost now of the Avon that I've run for the past 10 years or so. Truth be told, I was also very disappointed with how the new Avon Chrome rear wore, compared to the previous version. The front is fantastic and still has a full season at least left on it, but the rear went South fast as far as I'm concerned. I like the tread pattern on the Shinko better, it's quite deep, and reviews overall have been pretty good on it. Another 3-4 weeks and I'll be able to try it out .

I would say closer to that 15K mark or more, is a good tire no issues past 7 years or so on the front I have. On the rear, I have a shinko SE890 journey and also a good tire for the price, but the shinko 230 tourmaster is cheaper and feel is a good front tire. I had Avon Cobra's prior and see no difference in mileage or handling, both are fine.
IMO, no need to spend the extra money on Avon's or Metzlers, etc. since the mileage and handling, at least for my needs, is no difference. Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? As I said previously, this tire is going on the trike. If I could find a car tire that would fit on the front of the trike, I'd mount it but, so far, I haven't found one. I won't even consider another tire now. I get about 16k miles out of them and they are the best feeling tire on a wet road that I've ever had on the front. Ordered and waiting for arrival so it can get mounted. Rams Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Rams [/quote] i don't think you would like a car tire on the front. you can really tell a difference between a flat worn out tire on the front compared to a new one. imagine trying to steer that thing with 5 inches on flat surface on the road. Post by: old2soon on January 18, 2023, 06:42:20 PM You've already ordered BUT I'run the 890Journey on Phatt Ghurl and really liked it. Wet dry twisties hard or normal braking All GOOD! I feel as that tire will outperform my feebl attempts at Riding. Got somewhere around 14G as I recall. RIDE SAFE.

Well O2S, I'll be needing another front tire for my resurrection bike in the near future, might try that one. Rams Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Keep looking at the New Double Darkside Commander III rear I have on standby. Sure looks too wide. Tire calculator says actually smaller...
Mapping out Hattiesburg now. Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Post by: Rams on January 19, 2023, 02:35:25 AM Avon Cobra Chrome made it 2 Seasons, over 11,500 miles. Might be worth looking into. Folks mount those reversed rotation don't they? Rams Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got? Post by: Avanti on January 19, 2023, 03:02:06 AM Commander III
Well it will not be because it is less expensive. Title: Re: OK, front tire for mileage, what ya got?
