Title: GPS word of advice - Post by: scooperhsd on April 07, 2023, 08:06:17 AM MY MIL's car had the battery die. In the process of me screwing up jumping (hooked the Jump-n Carry backwards), I neglected to unplug the Garmin GPS that was in it. Power supply is fine, but the GPS is fried. This was MY mistake, no one to blame but myself.
On the plus side, I'm glad we have AAA. Guy was here within an hour of wife calling them this morning, he had a diag tool and his own jumper. And replacement batteries onboard. $205 later her car is operational again. Dead cell. Found out last night as we were getting ready to leave for Orchestra rehearsal, so we had to move everything to our Golf (including the String bass I play) first. I have used him several times to repair my Zumo 550 and upgrade the memory in my 665.

Title: Re: GPS word of advice - Post by: carolinarider09 on April 07, 2023, 11:45:32 AM Ok.... I have not encountered your issue. Just did a search because I was thinking that a lot of electronic devices have a diode type thing in the power leads so that if you reverse the power leads something like a fuse blows. I don't know if my Zumo devices have one but it would be internal in the device but I just noted that the Drive 50 has an internal fuse in the power plug.
Might be worth a look if you have not already checked. So, since the Drive 50 (a really basic navigator) will not power on, I assumed that the secret magic smoke has escaped and it won't operate again. So, I've ordered a nicer replacement that I will probably use in our Golf, and put the Golf's current GPS (a Nuvi 2597) into Mom's car.
