Title: Front light mods Post by: CamTom12 on July 03, 2023, 08:00:51 AM The previous owner of my Valk had wired in a set of auxiliary lights and mounted them to the bottom of the triple tree on either side of the headlight. They were the old “overhead projector” style incandescent bulbs and while very visible, did not add a lot of light to the road at night. They were also powered by what I’m guessing is some sort of aux power output near the fuse block, so they were always on when the key was on.
They finally quit working a while back so I found some cheapo LED versions on Amazon that looked to be about the same size. Originally I was just going to connect them to the PO’s wiring and mount them up but when I got into the headlight housing I found out that the connectors he used had melted! So I pulled everything out except the wire loom he had used. Running the new auxiliary lights off a relay from the battery that’s switched from the high beam indicator light, so now they’re only on with the high beams. Much nicer for oncoming traffic at night. While I was in there, I noticed that some LED projector bulbs I had bought for my truck would mount right up. Just had to remove the forward reflector thing from inside the headlight. They’ve got great light out on the road plus a nice and sharp cutoff for oncoming traffic. And when I flip the high beams on it’s like daylight in front of me. Just wanted to share. I’ve got about $80 and 3 hours in this whole mod. I’ve got some pictures I’m trying to upload but the site is mad at me for whatever reason. I’ll keep working on it. Having said that, I still plan to put a set in the truck, but since it’s a bigger project I’ll wait until I have a few smaller ones knocked out. Need to get my old 4Runner brakes working so I have another rainy-day commuter, too. Website for the bulbs was LED Colight or something like that.
