Title: Kuryakyn Highway pegs 4050 fitting.....??
Post by: Knapdog on August 07, 2023, 04:50:31 AM
I've received the pegs today from Purdys Powersports.
I'm not wonderfully enamoured with the fitting instructions....

There are two pics showing the "hinged clamp/levelling brace orientation " for a gl1500 and a Valkyrie.  I thought our bikes were both of these.
So which do I choose please and what are those black bendy bits for? What do they do?
Dies anyone have a pic of them on the bike, possibly to help please?
Thank you..

The GL1500 they mention is the Goldwing, it has different crash bars than a Valkyrie.
When mounted on the lower bar, the black bendy piece with the bumper rests against the valve cover to keep the peg from rotating down.

Everything is now clear. Thank you very much.

I assume you don't have an interstate (IS).  If you do, the IS-only air scoops must be cut off to put the clamps where they are supposed to go (the scoop's purpose has always been a mystery, and they are unnecessary)(mine are cut off).  They will mount below the scoops, but that is not an ideal mount position.  Most sellers website fitment charts will say that 4050s don't fit the IS, and this is the reason.

The offset and peg mounts rotation are very adjustable to your height, comfort and desired foot position, but it is ideal they be mounted so when folded up they cannot hit in a drop or fall and slide (for either hitting the ground or hitting the valve covers).  They are folded up in spirited twisty riding where hardest maximum leans might still scrape the peg edges (or drag a boot heel off the peg and twist your knee badly).  (Boot laces must always be tucked in as hooking a boot lace can be a bad thing.)

Mine are set up with a comfortable bent knee position, and I can also slide my boots over them and stretch out (and lean back).  This allows relief of butt and back positions too.

I mount mine off the engine guard, not below the guard.  I do mount them with clamps that wrap all the way around.  The picture in the original post does not look like a wrap around.

Carl, the pictures show bosses (screw holes) in the end of the U's; The rest of the clamp and offsets (not pictured) bolts to them for wraparound.
