Title: As long as we're talking turn signals... ;) *UPDATE* Post by: PSUbag on August 28, 2023, 03:05:02 PM Are the front and rear turn signals swappable?
The little tab that holds the top of the lens in, broke off my right rear turn signal housing. I thought the screw would hold it in good enough, but I was wrong. Long story short, I ordered a used one from Ebay and got a front right instead of rear. I don't have time to mess with it tonight. Was wondering if they're interchangeable? Thanks in advance. '98 Standard Title: Re: As long as we're talking turn signals... ;) Post by: Jims99 on August 29, 2023, 05:02:00 AM My 99 tourer has the two screw covers. Front and back are the same. The 97 standard has single screw in the back but double in the front. This may not be stock, it had been layed down by po and may have changed front lights.

It isn't. OEM units will either be both single or both double. Anyways, a front signal will work for a rear signal except you'll have to use 1157 dual filament bulbs and just connect the hi filament wire and leave the low-filament wire (striped wire) unconnected. That said, a front right signal is a rear left signal. after you spin the signal 180°. Otherwise a front right signal used for a rear right will have to be installed upside down. Btw, Honda Shadow signals will swap out just fine. [edit] most Shadow VT750 & VTX1800. Mine has the single screw underneath, no screws thru the lens. https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1998/gl1500c-a-valkyrie/turn-signal-1 (https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1998/gl1500c-a-valkyrie/turn-signal-1) I'm going to start searching again. New or used (in decent shape) would be ok. Thanks for the info! I'll check about the Shadow and VTX ones too. Though the "related fitment" on Partzilla has all Valkyrie. :-\ Anyways, a front signal will work for a rear signal except you'll have to use 1157 dual filament bulbs and just connect the hi filament wire and leave the low-filament wire (striped wire) unconnected. Title: Re: As long as we're talking turn signals... ;) Post by: RonW on August 29, 2023, 01:29:49 PM if you only need to replace the chrome shell a lot of Honda Shadows use the same shell regardless of the different rubber stalk designs. Problem is on many damaged signals sold second hand, the shell has road rash. Otherwise you could salvage the shell off a turn signal with a broken stalk.
Front signals have a metal visor which I personally like vrs. a rear signal shell. The visor is clipped in and if memory serves with retainer teeth pointed in the direction to go in but not take out. So, it's not transferable to a rear signal shell. Might be just the Aeros though. Definitely on the recent Honda. (https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSxMRGUt1kg1R5guFj4OgAmrWJQdUhrIrUNM4aqsPwvZrkvsvwuiTXw09iAexlpLl_XcxQXVXBqP_UXiPFlJ8huklwOFrbYApA1kVlGBarmRAYoP7sC0vquYTAPnILKIpnj66vRRp4fdagXF9VpQtjEPZus1QtkkAEtHq1lErDRV25n1YZ5GDTQrZ6NQ/s797/shell__.png) It's a good idea to examine a photo that has a view of the top section of the chrome shell. Before that barb at 12 o' clock breaks off, it forms a tell tale crease. (https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdCxYdTifKILVD1iXgMwmadyktrbX_UsK6tIYKD5hnIAK9io2qtoZvJTMXbm2klkWYTQLIH_CUVwt0UDQwunOiRHFLyJekhAMJ3Egr0OsxWvWsUCTN4z32ZR5z4kRoojrB2owIKB7z76GSTOClzukmz6wD7OZ03y6EN3lqEoxIAU1ZTQoyc-2YKLWmng/s585/shell_______.png) The socket plate for the bulb has a clip (x below) that captures the rubber stalk (on single screw signals). The tip of the stalk has a groove for the clip. If you unsrcew the socket plate, you'd be able to unclip the stalk and separate the chrome shell. From my experience avoid applying locktite to the screws as they thread into plastic posts. When the screws are removed the plastic threads are likely to get stripped from the adhesion. It arrived in 3 days too. It's identical to stock. Highly recommend this company.
