Title: hubcap's fall color ride clutch issue...
Post by: hubcapsc on February 01, 2025, 07:00:25 PM

Some folks might remember that I came to the fall color ride in
a Mini Cooper this year (and had a great time).

The day before  the ride I was out on the bike. I was turning around, waiting
for a car to go by. I was at full lock to the left, when... ptooie! My
clutch quit working right and I stalled out.

I straightened the bike up, it fired right up and the clutch was
normal.

Since then I've found that the clutch line is routed down under the
left/front of the tank, and it is double thickness in that area. My
double thickness had given up the ghost and I guess that little
inch of single thickness was crimping when I was at full lock.

It is sad that you can't get OEM clutch lines anymore. I got  a
"new" line from a bike with 7,000 miles on it.

Did you make reservations for the Alabama ride in April?  Lance told me yesterday it was sold out. Glad you got the log truck fixed  :cooldude:

Glad you isolated the issue...

Curious why ya' didn't just go with new stainless lines as a replacement though while you're in there?

I've got Spiegler on my 1800 Valkyrie because I needed custom lengths. I
like them fine and would get them again.

But I like the 1500 Valkyrie's OEM lines, part rubber hose, part metal pipe,
made specifically to route and be snaked under the tank and end up at
the slave cylinder. I think (maybe wrongly) all the aftermarket lines are
generic tubes cut-to-length.

Groovy, was just curious mainly on the new stainless vs. used OEM...

Most everything else on my bike is pretty well used  ;) ...

I admit, I admire the love and attention you're still putting into your dump truck...

...the longer I have my '08 Wing (Hit 70,000 miles on it yesterday) and the more I ride it, the more I like to just look at my Valk, but really don't enjoy wrenching on her or really even riding her that much anymore...

Still love the bike, it's gorgeous and has treated me (mostly) well the last.... gack... 25 years...

Guess it's kinda like my 1911's in the safe. Love 'em, they're gorgeous and like to shoot 'em in small doses, but the modern stuff is just so much better in every way other than looks...

(Not meant to be taking a crap on Valkyries, please don't get me wrong! )

I still love my Valkyrie's!

But, I can't remember the last time I threw a leg over one of them.

It's really hard not take the Wing when I want to ride.

I felt the same way about my Harley (after I got my Valks) Mark.   :)

I think my 1500 is different than my 1800, but it is the same terrific
bike I thought it was 18 years ago when I got it. My levers aren't floppy,
my throttle turns nice and easy, it is smooth and fast...

I feel the same, when I look at my Valks and then my Wing, the Wing rules.

Love my Valks and I try to get on them once in a while to keep the juices in them flowing, but it's hard to discount the power, suspension and handling differences.

When I get on one, the Valks still give me a smile.
