Title: Any burn scars on inside lower foot?
Post by: Quince on March 23, 2025, 05:22:03 PM
Don't know yet how hot the exhaust gets and I see that I could actually come in contact with on both sides when pushing the bike while sitting on it. If they get hot, is there any aftermarket wire shield or other protection available? Have one inch round scars on inside of both legs from the ZZR1200, both acquired in the gas station at different times, so took a while to learned my lesson.
On a totally different subject, what is your best phone holder that fits the ball on the handlebar clamp? I assume that what the ball is for.  :-\

Avoid riding in sandals and you probably won't get burned.

I have barely a 30' inseam and I wear 8" boots and I don't get burned, though I have gotten warm and quickly moved outboard of the pipes very occasionally.  Foot and leg position gets intuitive after riding awhile.

One of my bikes has Hwy pegs on the forward guards with no offsets (just short clamps) and if I'm not careful, my calves rest on the rear valve covers, and that gets warm right away ("crap, I did it again").  I really need to put offsets on it like I have on my other bike.  Though I hardly ever use Hwy pegs anymore because of traffic everywhere.

And both bikes have floorboards, not pegs, which I prefer.  Which do interfere in putting feet to ground more than pegs.  No big deal.

I can't help with the phone question.

In the over 20 something years I've been enjoying this website, I don't believe I've ever heard of someone burning their foot on a Valk exhaust.  Burn marks from boot soles/heals near the passenger peg are reportedly regularly.

Maybe happened, w/o report here.

Sounds like the phone/accessory ball clamp is a aftermarket addition, but most are standardized somewhat.

I'd follow Jess's advice on foot wear.

I use the Quadlock stuff. They have Ram ball versions. I have a built in charger and a shock absorber on there. It is all compact and the phone mounts with a push and twist. It is much easierer to use than the Ram holder with the 4 arms.

The ball on the handlebar clamp is not stock OEM. Probably left by previous owner. Look up RAM mounts to find many parts to fit your needs.

Valks are not ZZR1200s. Ride without fear my friend.
Never burnt anything in 135000 miles

Chick's dig scars. Don't worry about the exhaust.
Quadlock phone case  on a ram mount is what I use
