Title: This Weeks Ride to the Florida Panhandle and the Gulf of America Post by: carolinarider09 on March 29, 2025, 06:57:53 PM This week (March 25 - March 28) we took a five day bike ride to visit the Florida Panhandle and the Gulf of America. It was similar to a trip we took in 2022, but we did not travel through Panama City as we did that time. Too much traffic.
Below is a “Map” of our trip from the Satellite Tracking Device I keep on the bike during our trips. It allows others (family and friends) to see where we are at anytime during the trip. (https://i.postimg.cc/ncnsrzSc/tempImagerjzzEV.avif) (https://postimg.cc/w3bxb6dS) I cannot tell you why one line is lighter then the other. It might be because of the duration of the view on the tracking program. We traveled about 1,200 miles in five days. Not a lot of travel miles but, now that we are retired, we don’t need to rush as we did in August of 2013 on our trip out West. I will provide links to videos loaded on Rumble for your viewing pleasure. They are all taken with my fairly new GoPro camera. It records in 4K and I try to ensure the files I load to Rumble are in 4K. It was a pleasant trip except for day one when it rained but….. that is ok since it did not rain on days two - Five. And for those of you that don’t know what our bike looks like I have included a picture. The trailer is really, really cool and it does get loaded. Cannot imagine how we did a fourteen (14) day trip with just the “side cases” and trunk (top box to some). But……. I had tired to route us close to the Gulf of America near Gulf Haven. The GPS routed us down Sugar Hill Road. There was road construction gong on which limited are ability to return. Sugar Hill Road was not paved all the way and we had to travel on an unpaved portion of the road and finally got back to a paved road. This is that video. https://rumble.com/v6re7uw-unplanned-travel-on-unpaved-portion-of-sugar-hill-road-near-cedar-island.html (https://rumble.com/v6re7uw-unplanned-travel-on-unpaved-portion-of-sugar-hill-road-near-cedar-island.html) March 26 Day Three of Trip to the Florida Panhandle to see the Gulf of America. Good report on what must have been a great trip! Thanks for sharing. Had my wife enjoyed touring the way yours apparently does, we'd have had a trailer, too. We did travel without one on the trips we did take, but it became very obvious early-on a trailer would be essential had she continued to ride with me! Alas, she did not... Heck, I could fill a trailer nowadays, but I've resisted the temptation. Whatever space we have available, we will fill it eventually! For this solo rider, it would mean just hauling around even more excess stuff! So far I've managed, but sometimes it's a very close call!!! Thanks for taking us along with you... Thanks for the report.

I'm not a fan of pulling trailers (for a number of reasons). I know you like your little diesels, but I'd get a bigger car or truck to haul stuff instead of a trailer. I love mine (6'2" inside, floor only 20" up from ground, front wheel drive, 6 speed trans (newer ones are 9 speed and giving people all kind of trouble), 24 gallon tank, decent mileage for it's size and weight too). My only regret is that we enjoy the ride so much we don't stop unless we have to.

We got 30 cm (1ft) of snow yesterday. Oh well. I’ll continue to live vicariously through the ride posts here. Here’s to warmer weather.

My only regret is that we enjoy the ride so much we don't stop unless we have to. That was me as a young man. :cooldude: As an old man I have to stop and pee way more often than I like. :tickedoff: |
