I read some weeks ago a topic about Gear Indicator but I do not remenber where.
Have some of you informations on this subject:
- available for Valkyrie ?
- how does it work?
- is it easy to install ?

I have some info;

On the back of the indicator is a bold , and there is a metal / rubber bracket so you can mounth it on to the steer.
Than the sensor has to be mounth close to the rear wheel
On the breakdisk you glue a magnet.
The sensor comes on the other side.
In this way the indicator can measure after the gear box.
The rev of the engine is the measurement before the gearbox.

Dakota Digital have one as well, but would only fit the Interstate.
Can not be used with cable driven speedometer

Man, the price on these things is high! They look pretty nice, but seen any sources that are like 1/2 the price? The only time I could use one is when I'm in 2nd when I stop and try to start out and stall looking like a newbee!

For me , with music in Helmet (ZZ top for ex.)I do not hear my engine , and when I'm in 5 for a long time I Have a doubt : maybe I'm in 4  :2funny: :roll:

their chrome gear Indicator with Hall Effect speed sensor.

I doubt this gadget would solve that problem.  It appears that the device calculates the gear by comparing wheel speed to engine speed.  When the clutch is pulled in or when the bike is stopped, there is no valid input to calculate the appropriate gear.  Not sure what the LED reading would be.  But it looks like almost a certainty that if someone approached a stop sign in second gear (or any other gear), pulled in the clutch and downshifted (or even upshifted), the device would have no way to determine what gear the bike was in until the bike actually started moving again.


Would definitely solve that problem.

You have to pull the front cover off the engine, not sure you could do it with the engine still mounted. It involves replacing a little doodad in the gear selector with one from a Goldwing 1500 and installing the associated wring harness. You then would get the exact gear indication, same as you can with a Wing if you happen to invest in an aftermarket dial.

For me, that's way too much trouble unless I had the engine out for some other reason. Just wanted to let you know it's possible.

I am a little confused, why would you need a gear indicator on a Valk.? It makes me wonder if you can't remember what gear you are in, will they forget to stop.

This is how it works, you stop and hit the shift lever to make sure your in first, then you hit it a few more times to make sure you really are in first and then once more just for good measure! Up shifting works similarly, you get up to speed and try to find sixth but it isn't there. Then ride along for awhile checking out the country side or what ever is going by and you forget you are already in fifth and you try to find sixth again!! That indicator might help you to remember where you are besides on the seat of your favorite ride and it will help to save a whole lot of un-necessary wera and tear on the nearly indestructable, wonderfully engineered square geared Valkyrie transmission.  :cooldude:
