Title: Gear Indicator Post by: John33 (France VRCC) on March 13, 2009, 01:23:03 AM Hello from France,
I read some weeks ago a topic about Gear Indicator but I do not remenber where. Have some of you informations on this subject: - available for Valkyrie ? - how does it work? - is it easy to install ? ... Thanks in advance for your comments Title: Re: Gear Indicator Post by: Dag on March 13, 2009, 03:55:06 AM I have some info;
Their website is only in Deutch, so I dont understand anything of it. http://www.biketronix.nl/ (http://www.biketronix.nl/) On the back of the indicator is a bold , and there is a metal / rubber bracket so you can mounth it on to the steer. Than the sensor has to be mounth close to the rear wheel On the breakdisk you glue a magnet. The sensor comes on the other side. In this way the indicator can measure after the gear box. The rev of the engine is the measurement before the gearbox. Can not be used with cable driven speedometer http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=496/category_id=298/home_id=60/mode=prod/prd496.htm (http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=496/category_id=298/home_id=60/mode=prod/prd496.htm) (http://www.dakotadigital.com/cartimages/prd_zm_496.jpg) Title: Re: Gear Indicator Post by: John33 (France VRCC) on March 15, 2009, 03:16:43 PM many thanks Dag ;)
Title: Re: Gear Indicator Post by: Larry on March 15, 2009, 03:46:57 PM Man, the price on these things is high! They look pretty nice, but seen any sources that are like 1/2 the price? The only time I could use one is when I'm in 2nd when I stop and try to start out and stall looking like a newbee!

I doubt this gadget would solve that problem. It appears that the device calculates the gear by comparing wheel speed to engine speed. When the clutch is pulled in or when the bike is stopped, there is no valid input to calculate the appropriate gear. Not sure what the LED reading would be. But it looks like almost a certainty that if someone approached a stop sign in second gear (or any other gear), pulled in the clutch and downshifted (or even upshifted), the device would have no way to determine what gear the bike was in until the bike actually started moving again. Quote For me , with music in Helmet (ZZ top for ex.)I do not hear my engine , and when I'm in 5 for a long time I Have a doubt : maybe I'm in 4 Would definitely solve that problem. Post by: John Schmidt on March 18, 2009, 05:10:46 PM You have to pull the front cover off the engine, not sure you could do it with the engine still mounted. It involves replacing a little doodad in the gear selector with one from a Goldwing 1500 and installing the associated wring harness. You then would get the exact gear indication, same as you can with a Wing if you happen to invest in an aftermarket dial.
For me, that's way too much trouble unless I had the engine out for some other reason. Just wanted to let you know it's possible. Title: Re: Gear Indicator Post by: Psychotic Bovine on March 18, 2009, 06:31:08 PM how about this?:

It makes me wonder if you can't remember what gear you are in, will they forget to stop.
Dan Title: Re: Gear Indicator Post by: RP#62 on March 19, 2009, 06:13:04 PM But you only need gear indication if you have retractable gear.

Not sure if it's because I'm distracted trying to understand the singularity that seems to existed before the "Big Bang", my obsession with the lack of a unified theory or why the speed of light is a constant...but the bottom line is I forget all the time. I've love an indicator. And a few answers!!! :) Title: Re: Gear Indicator Post by: John33 (France VRCC) on March 23, 2009, 12:52:13 PM I am a little confused, why would you need a gear indicator on a Valk.?
