Title: Hey, Hoosier Riders
Post by: solo1 on March 20, 2009, 04:37:01 AM
I just finished a book called Motorcycling Across Indiana by William Murphy. Murphy is a former Marine, Vietnan vet, retired conservation officer, and knows Indiana.  He rides a Harley.

The book is sort of a travelogue about Indiana seen from a cyclist's viewpoint.  Lots of stuff, routes, where to go,what to see,  best roads, history, etc.  He also lists dealers, motels, sheriff dept's etc.
I joined the Lincoln Highway Association because of it.  i intend to do traveling in Indiana this summer and use this book for a guide.

The usual, not connected, no monetary outcome, no relation, no nuttin', blah blah. I just like the book.

Fudgie, I got mine from Barnes and Noble, Ft. Wayne, they has it in stock.  Murphy also wrote the same about Ohio and Michigan.  Barnes and Noble can order those.  The usual, blah, blah,

I'll have to check that out. I feel like I've ridden almost every road in Indiana at one point in time or another, but I'll bet not.   There are bound to be more out there and we're always lookin' for previously unexplored trails.

Title: Another good Indiana roads book

Back Roads of Indiana.  It is primarily maps of each county showing all paved roads.  Most of the maps are to the same scale so you can copy and tape together a route.

It was put together by a Lafayette guy originally for the local bicycle club.  You'll find it in some bike shops around the state but always in Hodson's Bay Bicycles in West Lafayette.  About $14.

That's something to look into.  Although the book that I mentioned  has only routes on paved roads, the roads here in NE indiana may start out paved and then change into gravel with no warning. a PITA for motorcyclists.
