Title: Witnessed a moto accident today.
Post by: ArmyValker on July 11, 2010, 04:54:37 PM
Jeez, seems like there's a lot of accidents this year. I was in my car drivin back from the local parts store here in Saint Robert, sittin at a stoplight,  and a guy comes haulin ass up on a beautiful brand new Harley Road Glide to the stoplight.. he musta hit a oil slick or somethin, cause he went down and his bike slid a good ways down the road. He said his head and neck where hurtin so the other person that stopped held his head still while we waited for the ambulance. I noticed he was wearing one of those "novelty" helmets... it was not in good shape, and it wasn't still on his head.

I turned off his bike and petcock. The guy was only worried about getting his DOT approved gear on (he is military, they won't pay his medical bills, and he'll probably be punished) before the cops showed up. Unfortunately, his saddlebags where toast so I couldn't help him, they wouldn't even open up on that side. Also, he wasn't gettin up anytime soon, so I told him to sit tight.

Anyway, nobody asked me for nothin, so I jetted. So, whoever you are, I hope all turns out well. Sorry about the bike, it sure was nice.  I feel guilty for lettin you burn like that, but there wasn't anything I could do man.  :-\

You did all you could do under the circumstances. I hate that he took a spill and was injured, but I suspect he knew the rules and the risks when he put the toy helmet on his head. I'm not speaking of risk of injury, but rather, risks of getting caught ignoring policy.

He is grown, but I hope he is okay.

Did Harley start putting petcocks back on their fuel injected bikes?  They took them off, no petcock, no reserve, because you do not want to run fuel injection out of fuel.  ???

This one had a petcock. It looked to be a road glide (not a big harley guy so I may be wrong).

The wife came upon one that had just happened last week. The guy had no gloves and no helmet.
The woman who hit him was accross the street frantically jabbering on her cell phone,(probably still) and he was on the ground holding his head and leg. Not a good thing to be shure. She didnt stay because there was a crowd and the sirens were coming. Sometimes the best thing you can do is clear out so the pro's can get in there.
Anyone remember the ads for Bell helmets, "If you have a $10.00 head, buy a $10.00 helmet"?
