Title: GoPro HD movie camera.....
Post by: thumper on July 23, 2010, 02:55:52 PM
I just took the leap and bought one.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and get a little intimidated by this stuff so I thought I'd ask for help.

Any suggestions that will help get me started would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to shoot pretty much all videos so......

SD cards?

Settings?

Mounting hardware (handle bars)?

Thanks

They come with a bunch of mounting plates and stuff, and they sell extras... my favorite has been
the simplest... I put one of the stick-on plates on the left air-wing...

my non-hd one can take 45 minutes on a 2 gig sd card, and 2 gig is all it will take... don't know
what the limitations on the newer hd gopros are... wouldn't be able to put 45 minutes of hd on
a 2 gig card, but maybe they support bigger cards... 45 minutes of video is a lot, and it is
kind of a drag editing video on my wimpy laptop... those are the kind of things you'll end up
thinking about... a studly PC with fast disk drives and a lot of memory is a good video editor.

You probably need to set the microphone to "low" (or whatever they call it) or you'll end
up recording noxious wind noise instead of sweet Valkyrie sounds...

Thanks for the reply Mike.

The HD will take a 32 gig SD and talks 2.25 hours of video.  Can't wait to get started.

As far as I know I'm going on a ride on some South Carolina roads with the North Georgia
club on Aug. 7, hope you're going on that ride... I went on a ride today, it's 100 out there, hope
it's not 100 on Aug. 7!

i mean after you mount your video maker on two wheels.

Glad to see you back on two wheels, Al.  That Dragon run last night sounds like fun!

I have mine mounted on my helmet, that way, I can look in the direction of items of interest, and with the super wide angle, the transitions are seamless. Yoiu will love this camera. I might suggest using the 720 HD setting, because it gives you the full 170 degree wide angle view.
