Title: Honor Flight for WW II Veterans Post by: Popeye on April 16, 2009, 12:58:13 PM Last night, I had the privlege to be part of a welcome home for about 80 WW II veterans. Honor Flight sends WW II vets to DC to see the memorial dedicated to them. They leave early morning and return late the same day.
These brave men and women had no idea that when they arrrived at Midway airport last night, there would be so many people there to say thank you and welcome home. The smiles on their faces showed how much they appreciated the all the attention shown to them. People of all ages turned out for this welcome home. The sad part, I say no TV coverage from any of our stations. I guess they only cover bad news. The fact they they ignored these heros saddens me. How does one find out about where and when and who(m)?? Sounds like a nice thing to do, had my grandfathers been around, they would have loved it as well. I saw the memorial for the first time last year...if any of you have the opportunity... HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT as a MUST SEE. I always go out and talk with them. I have several "old friends" who are WW II vets at the senior center where my mom lived. They share many stories about their experiences with me. It's sad to watch then become frail, because I consider them the strongest generation I know. We certainly owe them for our freedom. We should always say to them, "Thank you for our freedom."
