I have an '83 Suzuki GS550E that I am trying to fix so my son can learn to ride.

THe major issue it has is that the front brakes were seized up when I got the bike. I have "rebuilt" the front brakes replacing all seals, rings, and pistons.

The brakes work fine except for one little issue. The brake fluid leaks out of the right side caliper. The leak is were the 2 halfs join. I brought it to a machine to have both sides milled flat and still it leaks. Torquing it down helped a bit, but still seeps.

I am considering putting a gasket between the halves, either using a fiber/cork gasket, a gasket in a tube or even a piece of copper or brass.

Does anyone have any suggestions? And NO I will not let him learn on my Valk!!!!!

Hit the boneyards and find a used caliper...

I just looked on eBay and found four gs550 front calipers, none over $30.00.

Two of my calipers on my Valk (one front and the rear) are rebuilt pinwall
calipers, they work great.

The first one that I rebuilt leaked from the banjo bolt until I
replaced the crush washer. Pressurized brake fluid will find a
way out if there is one.

most of the calipers that iv'e rebuilt. that were split in 2 halves..they normally had o-rings seated where the holes are..maybe the o-ring got pinched when ya put it togather.

And 3W-lonerider, thanks for jump starting my one remaining brain cell ... when I rebuilt the calipers there were no o-rings in it, so I did not think of needing one ... just checked the service manual .. and there it was part #7 o-rings.

I should heed my own advice to end users .. RTFM.

hey we've all been there and done that..and we learn that way. glad it was nothing major and the o-rings should fix ya right up.
