Title: Burger Wars - Scorecard and Ride Report Post by: RainMaker on January 20, 2012, 03:14:55 PM A few weeks ago, we had a string talking about the best dive contest in the area that a radio station was sponsoring. Supposedly, you voted and the one with the most votes won, but we all know that they actually just took the one with the highest radio advertising budget. Or so I've heard.
I'd like to find out where the best burger truly is in the area. I have my favorite, you have yours, etc. Sunday, I'd like to try Sweetie Pies in Decatur. I've been there before for steaks, but never had the burgers. No ride plan - just meet there about 1:00PM on Sunday and eat a burger. If we want to go somewhere afterwards, fine, if not, fine. Just a chance to get together and tell lies. Sunday - 1PM - Sweetie Pie's in Decatur. The weather is supposed to be great. Here's the link for directions. http://www.sweetiepiesribeyes.com/directions.php (http://www.sweetiepiesribeyes.com/directions.php) RainMaker Title: Re: Burger Wars - The Sequel (Meet at Sweetie Pies Sunday at 1PM) Post by: Disco on January 20, 2012, 04:05:30 PM That's a great idea, RM. I thought the ride was to confirm, or at least add fodder to the mix, who has the best burgers!? Apparently, those who tried the burgers, came down with "sudden silence syndrome". . . or they decided they were SOoooo good, they didn't want others to know about it. :2funny: Maybe it was just a 'pie run' and nothing more. Title: Re: Burger Wars - The Sequel (Meet at Sweetie Pies Sunday at 1PM) Post by: Hollyday on January 24, 2012, 05:57:59 AM The burgers were ok.... nothing to write home about. I liked the bread they made but it was not the most sturdy.
Title: Burger Wars - Ride Report Post by: RainMaker on January 24, 2012, 07:18:28 AM Ride Report:
Got to Sweetie Pie's about 12:45 and found Hollyday and ThagAndy there already. Pretty decent line at Sweetie Pie's but we went over, got our name on the list and were inside within 10 minutes. Discussed what we would eat to start the Burger War's validation tests. Hollyday picked the medium-well cheeseburger with no veggies and I picked the green onion cheeseburger, medium-rare, with all the veggies and mayonnaise versus mustard - a real burger! Just after our orders went in, Bozman came thru the door and sat in the 4th chair. He ordered a cheeseburger as well, but with the fixin's. ThagAndy ordered a chicken fried steak to complete the evaluation process for a decent Valkyrie food station. ThagAndy enjoyed the chicken fried steak immensely. The burgers - well, they were a different story. Bozman's burger fell apart. The buns are like big biscuits - large versions of the bread they put on the table before your order arrives. It's soft, but not that tasty and very, very easy to break apart. Bozman ate his burger with a knife and fork. Hollyday has already given her report on her burger. Mine was tasty but it wasn't in my top 10 of burgers. The bun had to be handled gingerly and the green chiles/sauteed mushrooms became a creamy sauce that dripped out. I thought it would be a bit spicy, but it wasn't, which was disappointing. The meat was cooked to perfection, though - nice bright red center with a seared outside. The meat by itself was very good, but the overall burger did not meet expectations. When polled, the general census was that the burgers were "OK" but not "anything to write home about". Sorry, Tom. The chicken fried steak, though - it seemed to be a big hit. Service was very good. Atmosphere was good, too. At least we have a standard to use for the future stops. We finished and got our tickets. We discussed that Disco was coming for dessert but then realized we were not asked about dessert so we asked our waitress over and ordered. Then Disco came in. He ordered as well. We had pecan pie, apricot pie and red velvet cake. None was left on the plates so dessert was judged very good. Got bigger tickets. We sat and told lies for a while and then about 2:15 Houdini and his child bride Mary came in the door. Bozman said he had to go so we bid him adeau and then moved to a larger table and the Capps ordered a meal and we told more lies. Around 3PM, we headed outside for a few pictures. It appeared to me that the direct way home from Decatur to Arlington was to go north on 51 to 455 East to 377 South. So Disco lead the way with his swinging Disco Ball on his antenna (see below) and we headed back. At 35 and 455, Hollyday and ThagAndy honked their goodbyes and headed south, but Houdini, Disco and I continued east. Houdini and Mary split off soon thereafter and I went with Disco to pick up some super-charged carb cleaner to try on my Tourer with the gummed up carbs. I then went over the Lewisville Lake bridge, hit Stemmons south and set my GPS for home in Arlington, getting home around 5:45. I'd probably repeat that next time then opt for a big ole piece of pie! ;)
Sorry I missed it. Sounds like everybody had a good time. :cooldude: Title: Re: Burger Wars - Scorecard and Ride Report Post by: flamingobabe #44 on January 25, 2012, 12:29:12 PM Just to throw a wrench into the pile...some of us are meeting at Orsak's in Fayettville this sunday about noonish to try their burgers....they may give y'all a run for ...for what....best burger....y'all come down......
