Title: spline lube Post by: theman8120 on May 14, 2009, 01:47:49 PM anybody use the bel ray assembly lube as to the waterproof grease that they offer?
Title: Re: spline lube Post by: Steve K (IA) on May 14, 2009, 02:25:32 PM I wasn't aware of an assembly lube. I do use the grease as recommended by the dealer that sold me my I/S. I even packed the wheel bearings on my CycleMate trailer with the Bel-Ray. Hubs are cool as can be while towing on the hottest days.
Title: Re: spline lube Post by: theman8120 on May 14, 2009, 03:58:47 PM the dealer in my area told me to use the assembly lube, and what I gather from bel ray's site is the water proof grease isn't moly, and the assembly lube is moly. Every thing I have read else were on the web says to use a moly type paste, but every were i have seen on the vrcc new tech board and the old is that everyone is using the water proof grease. I am getting ready to do a tire change and want to use the best stuff.
Title: Re: spline lube Post by: John U. on May 14, 2009, 06:23:00 PM I have used the Belray assembly lube. It has plenty of moly, but after about 5,000 miles it was almost dry.
So, reading about many who use just waterproof grease, I'm now using synthetic waterproof grease with the assembly lube mixed in for moly content. After 5,000 miles (on two bikes, and they could have gone much longer) the splines looked great. Be sure to follow the proper tightening proceedure and you'll be fine. Title: Re: spline lube Post by: 98valk on May 16, 2009, 05:11:59 AM anybody use the bel ray assembly lube as to the waterproof grease that they offer? save yourself headaches and excessive wear by using at least a 60% moly paste as required by honda. research moly and how it works. There is no grease or paste without it at a reasonable price that can provide the protection the splines need. This is what i use it has 70% moly http://www.tsmoly.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_7&products_id=84 (http://www.tsmoly.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_7&products_id=84) http://www.tsmoly.com/old/ts70.shtml (http://www.tsmoly.com/old/ts70.shtml) http://www.tsmoly.com/index.html (http://www.tsmoly.com/index.html) Title: Re: spline lube Post by: Duct Tape on May 17, 2009, 05:39:07 PM The local Honda dealership said the Belray waterproof grease is what they use.
