Title: On the field at Gettysburg... Post by: hubcapsc on June 14, 2009, 05:58:17 PM When we got to Gettysburg there was almost as many of us as there were soldiers during the war! We overwhelmed the road in, and split up into smaller groups... this picture doesn't do justice to how many Valkyries were lining the road... one cager made some rude remarks about having to share the battlefield with us... he sure picked the wrong chain to yank ;) (http://hubcap.clemson.edu/~hubcap/crowd.jpg) Steamer and I found the somewhat remote (you have to take 30 east out of town four or five miles to get there) "East Cavalry Field"... we practically owned the place, most people go to the main battlefields in town. South Carolina's leading man, Wade Hampton, and his cavalry were engaged here in some horrific cavalry battles, Hampton was severely wounded (shot, numerous saber wounds) but made it out alive. Fitz Lee, another Confederate general of equal rank to Hampton was also here, as well as the famous Yankee Custer.
