Title: Allegheny Portage Railroad Post by: Big IV on June 22, 2009, 05:38:53 AM
Saturday we went to the Allegheny Portage Railroad Museum...and I learned things I never knew before:
This was a neat museum that preserves some of the state's railroad history. This past Saturday was a free day without admission, and that made it all the better! The Lemon House was situated between the Turnpike to Johnstown (what is now is old Hwy 22) and the rail line. The house served as tavern, resturant, store, and hotel making money off of the passing travelers.
(http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv79/bdwybaby13/parent%20visit%206%2020-21%2009/alleghanyportegemuseum12.jpg) They have restored the first floor to what it may have looked like at the time. (http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv79/bdwybaby13/parent%20visit%206%2020-21%2009/alleghanyportegemuseum14.jpg) (http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv79/bdwybaby13/parent%20visit%206%2020-21%2009/alleghanyportegemuseum15.jpg) (http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv79/bdwybaby13/parent%20visit%206%2020-21%2009/alleghanyportegemuseum16.jpg) Supper wasn't too shabby for $0.25. Back in the day supper cost as much as a room at a quarter! (http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv79/bdwybaby13/parent%20visit%206%2020-21%2009/alleghanyportegemuseum21.jpg) Now it's fake food and dressed up folks showing you around. (http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv79/bdwybaby13/parent%20visit%206%2020-21%2009/Gazatillian.jpg) The little sign on the pretty gate sign reads: No Dumping. Odd. Title: all of this is conviently located to... Post by: Big IV on June 22, 2009, 06:53:53 AM Thunder in the Valley this weekend.
