Title: interstate tank update
Post by: larue on May 19, 2013, 09:39:01 PM
tank is fresh out of paint, got it mounted used some help from a friend, took sometime to mount it but we did it, nice gloss black no dents, shimmed high to clear the stacks, pushed hand bars back just a little so they will be no contact with tank. Put new filter as well, found out it was over due:) and with tank off might as well. as for the corbin seat i put few washer under between seat pan and latch and it seems ok to latch and will get better with riding. Thank you all for your input and JOHN SCHMIDT special thanks always there for me  :cooldude:

I am glad that you got all of the Bugs worked out and the Tank mounted. It looks like you are ready for the Long Haul now.

Thank you Bert, i am now...your idea for my corbin seat to fit with I/S TANK was brilliant, i replaced the spacers today and  just put an inch bushing tubes between seat pan and latch and wow, like butter, it  snugged right in...thank you very much

Great job Larue. Now you can ride a long time like the rest of us I/S guys...and John!!  :cooldude: How about a pic a little further back so we can get the big picture.

Larue, looks good there buddy, adds some more class to an already classy bike. Need to ask....is the nose of the seat pressing or rubbing on the back end of the tank? If so, you may want to pick up some black deco peel/stick tape at an auto parts store. I found some that was about 2" wide and placed it on the tank where the seat contacted the tank, kind of a semi-circle. No more rubbing of the paint and you couldn't see it when the seat was in place. It's that stuff drivers use to accent areas of their cars, sticks real good but comes off with ease when needed.

it sure will James thank you hope you got my email alert aout the radiator pods u looking for , i sent it a while back and there's a couple sets  on ebay now too.
John the seat fis like a hand in glove , barely no contact at all, just like the fit with the tourer tank, took it out and put it back few times no scratches but wil apply the tape just as a caution. only contact is the tip of the seat and the tank bib.
Jeff here is a shot of the fat lady after the rain last night. sorry its a cellphone shot .

Those taillights remind me of someone named Barbara in high school. She also had large taillights on her car.

OK....what did all you perverts think I was going to make reference to? Really now!   :2funny:

Barbara jokes aside... I bet large red flashing cones show up better than small red flashing disks...
anyone got any anecdotes?

Ya think?  ;D I've since added flashing red LED strobes mounted between the bags and rear fender. Only come on with the brakes. Seems to get their attention.

I know Mike, just yanking that chain a bit. My old friend in Columbus, OH known as the Kansas City Kid(Ted Abbot) had those on his Valk way back when, with the bulbs he had in them you see him a half mile away. I replaced my bag side reflectors with LED's as well. They stay on solid until I hit my turn signal, then oscillate between the side and rear lights.

I really like that idea. You have rails as do I, and I have the rattlebars quick release for
the bags... since I like to take my bags and rear fender off when I change tires, I already have
to fiddle with the tail light wire connection... I guess you have to have wires going
into your saddlebags somehow...

Mike, you're right, wires coming in near the top front bag bolt. It's a small hole for a single wire with a bullet connector just outside. Since the bag mount is a solid connection to the frame, I grounded it there, then a small single wire for the 12v exits the bag surrounded with some clear RTV.

Here's the leds to replace the bag reflectors.  Bill Gurney did a how-to some years ago over on Delphi.... sanded down a little material off the back half of each for a good fit.

I remember someone writing if you ground them to signals ground, they will flash with the signals (run/turn).

Mine's purtier!  ;D Have six LED's, and have raised lenses. You can see them from the side or behind. Bought them at the 75 Chrome Shop near Wildwood, removed the bezel and ran small bolts through them into the bags. With RTV, no leaks since installed.
