Title: New Tires - best places?
Post by: RainMaker on November 10, 2008, 08:53:39 AM
My front tire is looking mighty slick these days, so it's time to reshoe the beast. I like Venom R's and think the Cobra is my next purchase.  Where's the best (cheapest) place to find them?  I am looking for best prices to then go to Al's with.

Thanks

RainMaker

They aren't close to you, but Maxim was very competitive on the 2 Venom Rs and 1 Cobra I've purchased over the last 14 months.  Free nitrogen, too.

I second the Maxim suggestion. Between myself and my buddies we've purchased many sets there and gotten really good prices and service every time. Service time seems to vary but I'm sure it's based on load. One time they changed them in 2 hours and the longest it has taken is about 9 hours. Both times were on a weekday. Just be sure to ask before you drop it off.

Good Luck,
Bart

Greetings,
Purchased 98 standard from AZ a couple months ago. It has original Dunlops that are delaminating with 5,700 miles on them. I found a new shop
The Flying Tire at 820/Randoll Mill that quotes Avon Cobra's for $380 set.
Did you purchase Cobra's? Any thought's about them?
Just joined VRCC yesterday and look forward to meeting the group at some point.

Checked the DirectLine site and totaled $364.53. Good deal however, do not have experience with mounting so where can tires be installed in DFW when purchased from others?

I got the Cobra front tire from Direct Line Parts a month ago - just didn't post it.

I will mount the front tire myself and will do the same for the rear when it needs replacement.  Have a bead breaker from years ago that works, plus got some tire tools and have an air compressor.  That's about all I need, except Dynabeads which I can buy in Arlington.

Avon Cobra front: $167.99 / rear, $197.99 at Jake Wilson.  HDL claims they'll beat any price by $5 or 5%.

I've used Two Wheel World on Pioneer Parkway (in Arlington) to mount tires that I've purchased elsewhere.  Both times, they had me out the door within 30 minutes with the new tires mounted to the wheel I brought.  If I recall, it was reasonable charges.

Rainmaker, since you and I compared front tires a few rides ago, I bought a Dunlop E3 front at Rockwall Honda.  Paid $147 out the door for it.  Gonna get Xander Cycles in Forney to mount it and change the valve stem to a 90 degree stem. Paid $6 for the new stem. I know that Al's sponsors the club but they are a long way from me and did not come close to the price when I called. L

Last time I needed a tire I went into Dallas Honda, our DFW club sponsor, prepared with internet pricing and the parts department said they would be glad to price match that price or I could take the price they had formulated which was considerably cheaper! Walked out with my new Metzler rear and installed it that day! Talk to Chris ("Kid") or Colby. -Jeff

Bought both front and rear cobra's yesterday from hdl for 353.85 delivered.  Darkside for me but I bought a rear anyway.  Could not get price match from area honda dealer's either.  volvobob
