Title: Tourer To Interstate Mod Post by: RonHolly on December 16, 2013, 11:42:06 AM What are the possibilities of converting a Tourer model to an Interstate model? Do the fairing parts match up or would it be a little expensive to do.

If it were me, I would buy an interstate.

If it were me, I would buy an interstate. +1 :cooldude: Tank, fairing, trunk, etc will cost you as much as a buying an IS. If you're wanting a fairing with radio and speakers, it would be much easier to put a Woodys fairing on your bike. If you're wanting the Interstate fairing, radiator pods, tank and hard bags, it would be much cheaper and easier to just buy an Interstate and take the trunk off. Just putting an I/S fairing on your tourer is fairly complicated, not to mention the wiring and wiring harness issues that you're gonna run into. It's not that it can't be done, but it's not a direct swap if that's what you're asking. Was quite a bit of work and way over $1200.00 . John considered an I/S fairing for his bike, he even bought one, but wiring it up and all the mods necessary to put it on and work with his controls. The wiring harness looked like something for a full bike. He thought better of it and kept what he had. I agree that if you want all the I/S stuff..buy one.

If you do add the I/S trunk, you'll have to create a short harness to adapt it to your present wiring. Again, I have all the connectors you'll need. And, the saddlebag lids will need the hinges changed over as well, plus they're not set up to operate like I/S lids. My suggestion....enjoy it the way it is. I adapted an '82 Wing trunk and mount to fit on my Valk, cut the mount down so it sits right over the rear fender. Two locks and the trunk comes off, six small bolts and the mount comes off. It's lighter and has almost as much room as the I/S trunk. Used only for travel....which I haven't been able to do much of the last couple years due to other problems.
