I remember thinking it was grossly overpriced when I got it, as it basically consists of 8 stainless quick-release pins and a drill bit. I recently had to replace some of the pins, and they are quite expensive from marine supply shops, so maybe TBR wasn't so high after all. I am pretty sure they don't sell them anymore, but you could replicate the system easily enough. I don't have experience with Rattlebars system, but I have always been happy with everything I've purchased from Chet.

Title: Re: TBR Quick bags vs Rattlebars Bag Drop kit vs other Post by: John U. on March 04, 2009, 09:39:33 AM I've been happy with Chet's prducts as well. The Bag Drop kit works well, but it too can be recreated. It's basically 4 pieces of stainless allthread, nuts and locknuts to replace the standard bolts. Seems unlikely that it would cost 50 some bucks (including shipping) to buy the pieces.
That said, I bought a second set (for a second bike) because it was too much trouble to recreate the kit. Title: Re: TBR Quick bags vs Rattlebars Bag Drop kit vs other Post by: Garland on March 04, 2009, 05:07:14 PM The TBR system is eight 1/4" x 1" type "M" stainless quicklock pins. http://www.bosunsupplies.com/products2.cfm?product=QRPinSuncor (http://www.bosunsupplies.com/products2.cfm?product=QRPinSuncor)
Below are the installation instructions included with the kit: Step 1: Remove the 4 bolts holding each saddle bag in place. Step 2: Use 1/4 drill bit to drill out the threads from the bag mounting points. Use care to drill as straight a hole as possible. Step 3: Set the bag back in posiition on the bike and insert each pin through the mounting hole while depressing the release button. Step 4: After installing each pin it's a good idea to try to pull the pin out WITHOUT depressing the release button. This will insure a positive lock on each pin. Step 5: Enjoy I seem to remember the kit being about $200, but the pins are about $15 each-so about $120 all together. I have read where some people notch their hardware in such a manner as: http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/tbrbag.htm (http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/tbrbag.htm) Has anyone done this and how well does it work. |
