Title: Well crap, got my new speedo/tach gauge.(edit: for the 1200) Post by: John Schmidt on May 27, 2016, 06:19:01 PM Looks great, good fit where the old uglies were, waited about 11 days shipped from Hong Kong and came today. BUT.....two problems; no instructions on its use, and no wiring instructions. I've been messing with it a bit this evening, finding ground is no problem=green. Found which wire is for the headlight indicator and which wire triggers the entire working surface. Beyond that, guess I'll have to hook some temporary wires in the connector, start the bike and begin fishing. I did send the seller a note, no telling when that will be answered. >:(
Title: Re: Well crap, got my new speedo/tach gauge. Post by: Colin on May 27, 2016, 10:42:18 PM John, which one did you get, make, model, photo? I have just bought one and I got a full wiring diagram with mine so may be able to help. It will be a couple of weeks until I have time to wire mine up.
Title: Re: Well crap, got my new speedo/tach gauge. Post by: John Schmidt on May 28, 2016, 05:27:25 AM Colin, I wasn't too clear on it.....it's for my GL1200 rebuild, this link should show pictures of it. I'm not sure how they think a person it supposed to hook it up without some wiring instructions. You'll notice in the pictures of it, the gauge only has two connectors. The one I received has three. I'll probably not get any input from the seller until after the holiday weekend....if ever. I'd love to have a gauge from Dakota Digital but they don't sell them for a price a retiree can afford. ;)

This is my one http://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/db-01r-plus-423-p.asp (http://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/db-01r-plus-423-p.asp) This Daytona one is even cheaper than the one I bought http://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/new-daytona-asura-multifunction-gauge-black-701-p.asp (http://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/new-daytona-asura-multifunction-gauge-black-701-p.asp) and should be even cheaper your side of the pond. I could have bought that Daytona one or the cheaper version of the Koso but I didn't want to mess around with magnets and sensors. Like you as a retiree I am always looking to save a buck ;)

Title: Re: Well crap, got my new speedo/tach gauge.(edit: for the 1200) Post by: John Schmidt on May 29, 2016, 09:54:56 AM Thanks for the effort Colin, but most of the wire colors don't match and those that do aren't in the same position as the diagram. I have a large number of multipin connectors, I plan to match the wire colors as close as possible and but keep them about 6" long with the end stripped. I can then narrow down what each wire is for. As an example; connect a wire to my tach output and just start touching each pin in the connector until I get a tach reading. Next, connect a wire to the right turn wire on the bike harness and touch each pin until I get a right turn flash.....and so on until I have it all "pinned" down. Without a diagram that's the only way I'll be able to figure it out. If anyone has a better idea, I'm listening. :cooldude:
