Does anyone know if all years of Valkyrie rear wheel dampers are the same? HDL lists a slightly different part number for 97 and 99.

My understanding is the later set includes the metal inserts while the '97 & '98 doesn't. You have to buy them seperately.

Yes, just play it safe and get the ones for a year 2000. If you get them for earlier years it will be something like $80 compared to $32. The earlier years you would have to get the rubber and the aluminum inserts separate to make them complete. Don't ask me how I know this.

Here is a link so that you can contact him and see if he is going to make any more. http://rattlebars.com/cart/bushings.html They are usually a special order item but worth the wait.

Thanks for the info guys. I am buying a set for a 97 bike with a 99 wheel and wanted to understand why the different numbers but that would explain it.

Just about everything else. Just make sure you transfer the brake rotor to the 99 wheel to prevent possible interference issues.

The sign of worn dampners is more back-lash. If you engine is not running perfectly smooth you wil notice the back-lash the most in first gear. With your engine at no load and your bike speed matching your idle RPM. Any variation in engine RPM causes the drive line to go from pulling to pushing very quickly you will hear the lash as long as the engine and wheel speed matches and you are in a no engine load situation If you want to grt rid of the drive line slop, while your new dampners are on order, you can use wooden slats just a tiny bit thicker than the space between the dampners and the whel dampner pockets. It works best if the slats are a bit thicker than the space and you tilt the dampners up on the short side from the stud then slide the slat and the dampner back into the pocket. I've been riding with slats for the last 4K miles they work well. I need to get the urethane dampners, the OEM's waer out too fast.

Garys wheel dampers are the best you can get. Trust me, I've had to replace my OEMS twice on my I/S. The less slop due to the dampers, the less wear on your drive splines. Oh,...use Gaurd Dog Moly 525 on the pines and the splines along with new O-rings for the greatest way to extend the driveline life.
