Going to need a new rear tire soon. I have a short inseam maybe 28". Already have a Ultimate lowboy with 11.5" shocks. Thinking of a car tire but can not afford to sit higher. Any suggestions?  Roll Eyes

When car tires on Valks were becoming popular, lots used P205/55R16 sized tires.  IIRC, they are about 1/2" shorter than stock, so will lower the back end 1/4".

205/60/16 is shorter than a stock tire.

I use this site for tire comparisons - https://tiresize.com/comparison/

According to Avone Tyres, the OEM 180/70-16 motorcycle tire is 25.8" diameter.
According to your linked web site, a 205/60-16 is 25.7", which would mean a 0.05" difference in seat height.
On the same site, a 205/55-16 tire is 24.9" diameter, so 0.9" difference from stock, meaning 0.45" lower seat height.  So I guess the difference is more than the 1/4" I said earlier.

What about the Austone taxi tire? Does it only come in one size. looks like 175R/80/16
Now that is about an inch taller tire than stock.

I ran a Maxxis 55 series on my VTX, awesomely sticky tire on the twisties, but only lasted 14k miles.
Think it was 80 bucks mounted.

I run a 195/60, it is about a 1/3 of an inch shorter. I don't use it for less height though, I like the way it feels and the extra miles vs. a bike tire.

According to the math I was taught, 25.7 is less than 25.8, so it is shorter, I never said it was considerably shorter.

Pocket Aces, I looked at this tire once but I want taller, not shorter, so I passed on it.

195/60/16 - 25.2 instead of stock 25.9.

The Achilles is a well rounded tire . I've 5 or 6 different car tires now. This tire in the 195/60 feels as good or better than all the rest.

Your 205 55 is the way to go, in a rounded profile tire.  For height, you absolutely don't want the Austone taxi tire, it's close to or even a bit taller than a 65 car tire.

You'll have to cut the nut cages off.  They rub the sidewall not the tread.  Removing the cages is not a big deal.  See below link. You don't have to pull the fender half to do the job.  Just pull your rear tire, jack the bike up, slide in underneath and do the work.  Each cage has two tack welds. One side of the tack weld will stress fracture off (back and forth bending), the other side may need cut off (dremmel best, but take breaks, high heat from long use can cook/bubble your paint on the outside where it shows).  File rough edges, paint up bare metal.  Some used smooth-top carriage bolts, inside out with acorn nuts on the outside fender struts.  I just used hex bolts, outside in, and a small nut cranked down tight (I may have been able to reuse the big fat square nut that's in there (inside the cages), but I was afraid it might rub... it probably wouldn't, it's the cages that rub).

Note, in choosing your 55 car tire, a lot of tires called summer racing tires come in 205 55 (in rounded profiles).  A number of guys run them, they have softer compounds and handle great but don't go 20-30K (maybe not much more than 10-12K).  But the issue with these tires is running them in cold weather.  Read up on any you like that are called summer racing tires.

All my car tires are all season radials.
