Is this a grind when you shift from neutral into first?  If so 3 things. 1) shift it with authority, you won't hurt.  2) it could be a a worn bushing in the clutch lever.  Is there a lot of sloppiness in the clutch lever?  3) slave and/or Master cylinders need rebuilt.  The rubber parts may be worn and letting pressure bleed by.

I have a 2001 interstate, shifting into 1 from neutral will grind if you pussy foot it. Like skinhead said tap the shifter down. The idle seems a bit high drop it to 900 and try it then. The cluch handle pivot have been known to egg shape making for a sloppy and not totally disengage the cluch. Try bleeding the cluch cylinder again and make sure to use DOT 4 fluid.
