I think I need to replace the water pump. It leaks about a half oz of coolant on cold startup when pressure starts to come up and then seems to stop, but I can see a little puff  steam once in a while.  I read to drain oil and coolant, but do I need to put sealant on the bolts and is it easy to engage with the oil pump drive?  Part no. 19200-MZ0-000 all I need?  Thanks.

I recommend a simple procedure for breaking them bolts loose for the water pump with less chance of breaking.  First go for a short ride to warm up the block. Second place the socket on each bolt and tap on the socket with a small hammer.  Then break them loose while the block is still warm. Once they are broke loose you should be safe.

Sometimes a cold startup leak is from an O ring behind a coolant tube pressed into the block. Heat will reseal it. It drips off the water pump which can fool you.

Thanks Sandy, but  i,m  pretty sure it is the water pump.  Have you replaced one? What holds it, just the two long bolts, and does it just pull out with the O ring?

Hey Mark.

If it's the pump, you should be seeing the drips coming out of the weep hole, behind the drain bolt of the pump, instead of coming down the side.

It's been a while since I had to pull a water pump on a Valk, there are 4 bolts to remove the cover first.

You might be able to remove the pump complete by just removing the 2 long bolts.

I'd follow the procedure Jeff suggested of warming the motor up and taping the bolt heads first.

You might want the o-ring "O-RING (32.95X2.62) 91302-MB0-013" also and don't forget to drain the engine oil first.

Hook's got it. Remove oil, 2 hoses and the two long bolts. I can't remember if the new pump comes with an O ring or not. It should be on the parts fische. At this time you can do something with the WP housing. Chrome, paint, powdercoat, or polish.

Hi Hook,  The pump assembly comes with the O Ring.  Got the two long mounting bolts coming , only a couple of bucks each.  I,m guessing you look in the mounting hole with a flashlight to line up the shaft.  Next week project.
