I have an Interstate. Found a Tourer that I really like. I really like my Interstate but its very heavy. It has every bag, trunk. fender rail, racks on the trunk and bags, hitch and so on. I like the looks and handling so much better with the trunk off. For those that have gone from an Interstate to a Tourer what are your opinions? any regrets? Any input is greatly appreciated.

But if he bought the tourer then he would have TWO Valks. I see no downside to that plan

I love my Tourer, it is easier to work on a bike with no fairing and no radiator pods and no trunk, and I can throw on a Givi trunk for long trips and take it back off when I get home -Mike

Again take the trunk off and give it a try. You would however have to put a tail light on the fender. But that is easy .

I love 'em both, but they're different animals. The IS rules for two-up comfort travel with (mostly her) stuff especially since it's decked out with Baker Wings, a comfy seat, the fairing and a tall windshield. I also like not having to hit the gas stations every 120-130 miles on the 'state. The Tourer (sans aftermarket trunk now) also loves the road, but is setup as my Harley eater with 38 jets, K&N air filter and recent carb synch. It just flat out hauls, and it's definitely easier to throw around in the twisties.

I love my Interstate, but there is no doubt the Standard/Tourer is lighter and more nimble. If you are not into 2up long trips the Tourer would be the way to go.

I had a Shadow ACE Tourer, it's a 1100 V-twin baby Valkyrie Tourer.
Went to an IS, so I would have more storage, the larger tank for more range, and the fairing/radio. Along with just being a bigger better bike.

I bought an IS to replace my tourer. Resold the IS because it felt top heavy. Bought an '05 wing and it handles great. Bought a '10 zx14 concours cause it handles greater. Sold the valk and bought another tourer. Now I have 3 bikes with bags, 2 with trunks. I'm so confused.

I did something along those lines. At one time I had 5 Valkyries (2x I/S, 2x Tourer, 1x Standard) and Rattlebars' old VTX1800C. All but two ('01 I/S and '99 Tourer) went away and in their places an '08 and a '12 Concours 14 appeared. At the moment, the Tourer wears the I/S's trunk. It also has a Memphis Shades Batwing fairing and a complement of aftermarket radio goodies, the usual Kuryakyn and Cobra engine dress-up stuff, a light bar and a set of handlebar-mounted gauges plus an I/S tank. The bike really doesn't feel that heavy. If I want an around-town setup I can jump on the I/S, or - when I get the fender rails switched around to use a quick(er) release setup - simply remove the trunk and Batwing. Both Connies have Givi V46L trunks installed atop Phil's Racks. They can come off in about a minute if I want to go play with the sport bike crowd, but that luggage is darn handy for trips.

I have a 99 IS. I removed the trunk and replaced it with the Tourer side rails and a Sissy bar with luggage rack. I also installed a Standard/Tourer rear brake light and have no regrets about this setup. If I was going to take my wife out for a trip (very rarely) I can always replace the trunk and Interstate side rails. I’m even still using the stock IS Seat.
You will love this mod.

This is how mine is set up and it's perfect for most situations. Keep the larger tank, fuel gauge, stereo, advanced timing and light pods (if you got them). For the few trips we are going to take, ill just convert it back to I/S mode.....Super Valk!!!!!

I'm probably not qualified to comment because I don't have an interstate but I do have a tourer, and that whole Valkyrie low center-of-gravity thing is awesome and I think with the trunk and everything else the interstate has high up causes it to be top heavy like you said (actually if I really wanted all that cargo space I would get a Goldwing). If you can only have one Valkyrie then maybe it's time to go over to the tourer. I don't think I could ever do just a standard valk, because I really love the saddlebags and big windshield so the tourer is the only Valkyrie for me just my 1.5 cents.

I like having one of each tourer and I/S. I/S for more storage, 2-up, and sound system and protection and quiet exhaust. Tourer for hooligan riding with side hard bags and tad faster/more nimble with LOUD annoying wake up the neighborhood cobra exhaust Best of both worlds...

I went from a Tourer to a I/S. Then I got my hands on a Standard.
I love them all, as each is different, but all have the excellent F6 power plant.
The I/S is definitely more top heavy, but it's only a slow speed thing. I use it for longer rides and 2 up. Or when doing some shopping, great space.
The Tourer is 1 up and has a repaired Ragnar cut, truck stack exhaust. Use it for cruising around. Sounds awesome.
The Standard is Bobbed. Very light weight compared to the others. Almost every piece not needed is off. Use it when I need a big grin.
If I could only have one, it would be a Tourer. Simple and elegant. Honda did em right.

Another vote for the SuperValk conversion. I had a Green/Silver IS and bought a Black one to make the solo. Once I took the trunk off the ride difference was amazing. I ended up selling the Green/Silver and keeping the Black SuperValk..... and have not yet had an occasion to slip on the trunk (which is slotted on the rails to do so).
I picked up a 2014 Valkyrie with Corbin Bags/Seat and it is my new main ride.... So I have it for Go and the Vintage IS for Show (but it goes too). Still have the trunk and trunk rack just in case I want/need it.
