ACRID EXHAUST

Greetings all!
I am brand new to the club, my first post.
I have a 97 Tourer I bought three years ago in great shape, with no mods that I'm aware of. It starts right up, runs great, no problems, has about 20,000 miles . . .
BUT. . .
I have noticed since I bought it that the exhaust has an acrid, unpleasant smell. I've never smelled exhaust like this in any of the dozens of vehicles, including four Honda motorcycles, before. It's hard to describe, but it's almost the opposite of an overrich, too gassy smell. The smell was still there even after an annual tune up at the local Honda dealer. I did a search on the site and found and earlier post that noted the same thing. The only answer was that this is normal when you start a motor in a garage, but frankly I've never smelled an exhaust like this.
Any thoughts?

What do the spark plugs look like? Anything unusual with the engine oil? Is it using any oil? Old gas and gas additives can affect smell. That is about all I can think of. Good luck. Pete

I am new to the Valkyrie although I always wanted one, but I do know from being around lots of high performance engines that a very lean fuel mixture is an awfull smelling thing to ride with

New pipes perhaps?
Are you familiar with what coolant smells like coming out the exhaust? (Not usually that unpleasant)
When I put on the last set of pipes I bought (fairly new) it smelled bad the first couple times I ran it, very harsh chemical smell.
