Hi all first post ever from me. 97 Valk Std. Great condition all stock no issues but the old rubber is now 21 years...no leaks but preventative maint. Changed brake and clutch lines to Russell SS. Next I think is the Rad hoses anyone with experience with Worley hoses that I find on ebay? Any feedback as to their quality fit etc... appreciated. The only reason I consider them against oem is frankly the color but if the quality or material is poor I can forget about the color. Thx all and ride safe. Curly

The only hose that is readily visible on our Valks is the lower, and just part of the upper where it connects by the fill cap.  That said I'd try to find one of the slinky stainless lower hose covers, or one of the hard to find steel mesh ones.  Both are cooler looking, and add some puncture resistance peace of mind.

Still, if you like the color give 'em a try.  Just remember China is a long way away to file a complaint if they blow out and leave you stranded.  Or scalded.

There's a story behind these hoses, and it's this....

I decided last year that I fancied some red hoses for my custom 97 and contacted Worley thru E Bay. They seemed to be reputable with a physical base business in Australia.
I sent them a set of Valk hoses off of one of my bikes (to China, at my cost) as a pattern and agreed a deal that I would get a set of free red hoses in exchange.
I thought it would be good for Valk owners generally to have access to colored silicone hose sets, I wasn't particularly motivated by profit or price or anything.
There was the semi expected delay, but they stayed in touch and duly sent me a set of red and a set of black hoses, keeping my originals.
Like a kid at Christmas, I opened the package and wasn't particularly impressed. The colored tape was untidily wrapped and the wall thickness variable. I decided to replace the black ones on the donor Tourer first (which had been laid up for about three months by now).
The leg of the T piece for the water pump was far too long, so I cut it and whilst doing so looked up it towards the junction and saw......

What you're seeing is a hole seemingly melted into the main cross hose, then the leg hose for the water pump birdsmouthed and held in position by much tape.
As you can see, the hole is probably 20% max of the I/D of the tube. Using the hose would have seriously restricted the coolant flow with potentially catastrophic consequences due to overheating.

I immediately emailed the supplier who answered along the lines of "Oh, the factory makes them by hand".....
Various back and forth emails ended with me demanding my original hoses back but, despite promises, that never happened.
I contacted Worley in Australia and they washed their hands completely, saying the E Bay business is nothing to do with them. I pointed out how ridiculous that was and they ceased contact.
It seems they are some sort of clearing house/ sales operation for a number of small Chinese factories with little quality control.
As the deal took place off EBay, (the hoses were obviously not listed) there is no recourse thru them for me.
I've just put it down to experience and the lottery of buying from China. (I have had good experiences with other suppliers for custom made items).

TL:DR, Avoid Worley and their junk hoses.

Thanks I'm an aircraft engineer/tech by trade. The pic is worth a thousand words and tells the story. FYI: There is currently nothing wrong with my stock hoses but at 20 years + rubber I am thinking preventative mtce. If you have a recommendation I'm all ears. Curlys

Mine had a "nice" braided cover on it when I got it. It had become ratty, maybe they
all do.

I got a new OEM hose and a 97 black slinky to go on it and that was 12 years ago,
I'm happy  Cheesy

Lube the hose good, maybe with alcohol, when you jamb it onto the radiator, don't break
anything...

There's no choice than new OEM that I can see, unless you do what I did and find a better manufacturer. I doubt that someone like SAMCO would tool up for a low volume product, although I didn't enquire.
And if you really want red (or yellow or blue, depending on your bike) then buy some silicone tape and a few beers....   cooldude

The Valk interstate radiator hose slinky is a good functional and nice looking part. (the link is for '99 Interstate)  I think it's aluminum (if not stainless).  Not high gloss.

It can still be had.      # 19 19123-MBY-000 PROTECTOR, RADIATOR HOSE  $27.93

The hoses are here too.  I cannot swear, but the hoses are likely the same parts for all models and years. The way to be sure, is log in on your model and year, and compare part numbers.

I doubt you need Honda clamps, but I wouldn't use the old ones.

This is an old one. (Pinwall cycle). (An old slinky could be cleaned up.  An old hose can be thrown away)

Big Bike Parts (Show Chrome) used to make a chromy bolt on hose cover.  They looked very nice, and they often leaked badly and were unreliable.

I installed one of these kits on my bike, looks nice and the kit comes with  different size and color rings.

silicone hoses are a race track item. should not be used on street.  under hood heat is the main issue that causes hose failure. the GL1500s do not have under hood heat. The OEM hoses last a long time, if there was a problem Honda would have a replacement schedule for them. Honda uses top of the line materials.

if u want the hoses to last a life time then use Evans cooling, lifetime fill, which runs with a lower pressure than normal antifreeze.

are u having any of the following if not then the hoses don't need replacement
radiator hoses, it makes sense to know a few signs to look for that might indicate one of them is about to fail. These include:

Cracks or splits in the hose
    Bulges in the hose
A “crunchy” feel when squeezing a hose (do not check this while hot)
Bulging or damaged ends (where the hose connects to the radiator)
    Coolant leaks
