This is not to diminish anyone who has seen combat in any of our conflicts and wars but I am truly humbled by those who landed on the beaches of Normandy. Having to cover all that open ground knowing there were machine guns, mortars, artillery and heaven knows what else there to cut down as many as they could. They were special young men for a special time in history.

If an American can’t stand for the National Anthem for some perceived slight in today’s society maybe they could just stand for those who served and can no longer stand.

Headed to France in August. Have an all-day personalized guided tour scheduled to hit all the key points of interest with regards to the D-Day beachhead invasion, and points inland. I continue to watch any WWII documentary and such on the History channel and the AHC channel with Olie North. Those guys & gals (nurses) were special for sure. Hitler and his agenda had to be stopped.

Although I already attempt to honor those courageous souls, thanks for the reminder.   cooldude

It is a real shame that those who served , gave idiots the right to be morons.

If you do not stand for the Anthem , then you should hide and let the real people fight for your sorry ass. Then , stay in hiding.

ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL.

I was named after my fathers best friend who piloted an LCM on D-day.  He was blown out of the water before they ever reached the beach.

My fear is the generations coming up will just view the past century as just ancient history. With young people the age of those who fought and died demanding “safe spaces” on their college campuses it doubtful they understand the sacrifice or the importance of those who made the supreme sacrifice. Our country with all our problems is still the most important player on the world stage and we need to keep our eye on the ball for the sake of future generations.

I hope this post is seen as patriotic and not political.

NOT taking ANYTHING from the brave men who stormed the beaches, but in one of those strange historical coincidences, the turning point of the war in the Pacific (By some accounts), the Battle of Midway, also happened on these dates... (June 4th - 7th)

I never realized that this happened in the same time period. The enemy faced in the Pacific was as deadly and brutal as any ever witnessed.

(Same dates, different years... Battle of Midway was 1942, D-Day was 1944... But still an interesting coincidence)

A few years ago I had  the privledge and honor of meeting several D Day Veterans at the D Day Memorial in Bedford, VA.

Their stories were right out of the movies, Their sense of humility was sombering.

Each one told an amazing story and told it as if it wasn't anything special at all.

To them the "Heroes" of that day were the ones that didn't come home.

Not really a coincidence, if you consider that since man stood upright, he generally chooses to fight in decent weather.  Even more true in oceangoing battles.  D day got lucky on weather (and a week later the Mulberry docks blew away anyway).

While D day got more press, the invasion of Saipan was the same month and year.  The Allied invasion fleet embarking the Saipan expeditionary forces left Pearl Harbor on 5 June 1944, the day before Operation Overlord in Europe was launched.  For two Marine divisions commanded by Lt. Gen. Holland M. "Howlin' Mad" Smith -- the spearhead of an invasion force that eventually totaled 71,000 men -- it was D-Day in the Pacific war against imperial Japan.

Back when we could fight two major wars on two fronts... kicking ass and taking names.

Change of strategy.  The bailiff calls for everyone to rise.
The judge walks in the court room and some take a knee.
WHAT will happen.

Thanks for the post and remembrance!
Taking a knee for the National Anthem is nothing short of disgusting in my book.
Will NOT be watching the NFL again this year for that reason. Until they get their heads out of their collective A$$ES at the very least.
