I think I can, I think I can. I feel like I'm on a NASA countdown now. I'm prepared, I'm determined, I'm motivated. 1746 in 2 days to catch my SoCal, AZ riding buds. Shooting for 1000 tomorrow . I did 1100 when I was a young , dumb, fearless 19 year old. 900 a few years back. The mental game is harder now. Doing 1700 in 2 days to get to San Diego induction on time was easy mentally. Seems the only thing I got going for me now is possibly a tad wiser and a bike made for it.  Smiley My $1370 Russel almost seems cheap now. CamelBack should help. I remember several 200 mile stretches without water in '78.
I think I can, I think I can.  Smiley See you Sunday, one way or the other.  cooldude

(Not to mention the 500+ breaking the back of Tennessee we've got scheduled for Satturday...)

If you find yourself close to Cookeville, TN and need a break, look me up.  I will not be heading out to Inzane before late Sunday night.

Did 330 miler on Saturday, 83 miles on USFS road needing some major work.  Lots of potholes and blowouts.  Long day.

You'll be careful out there on your way to meet up.

The 40 to Memphis and then down to meet my buds in Alabama. But.... I’ve just been thrown a wrench in the mix. I think a bearing in my alternator has went to crap. It’s making a hell of a noise. It’s charging, but for how long I don’t know. I took the alt out here at the hotel, it seems to have slop in it. Trying to figure out what to do.  Embarrassed

Thanks, Dennis. It’s making a good racket. It’s still charging though. Do you think if the bearing gets totally destroyed it will still charge and get me there ?

Okay, was gonna be hurt if you'd taken I-30 across... (It's about 2 miles from my house...)

You took an alternator out of a Valk in the hotel parking lot??? *Salute* sir... that's impressive! Hope you get everything taken care of and buttoned up!

You 100% the alternator is the source of the weird noise? These old ladies can whine and complain from so many different areas, i threw me off a lot last year from the ACTUAL problem...
