Woke up at 4:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep. So I thought I’d sit out here on the balcony in my underwear, with a coffee and philosophize a little. We are having a great time here. I don’t think I’ve been anywhere that has this many crooked roads. I’m surprised I haven’t seen more crotch rockets here. Seen a fair amount of Harley’s.
I’ve never considered myself a very social person. I leave that to my wife. She can talk to anybody. But, it has been GREAT meeting new people here ! And it has been especially great seeing old friends.
After my incident in Amarillo it caused me to reflect a little about some of my prejudices. I was born in McAllen, Texas and lived in Texas for 5 or 6 years off and on. Many of my relatives still live there. But, sadly I’ve never had a real affinity for the state. I hate to admit it, but I’ve kind of always looked down on the place as a redneck backwoods. I know many good people from there, but in general it’s just not been my kind of place.
I’m having to reevaluate all that now. I had nothing but kind, helpful, caring people in my time of need there. EVERYONE, from the gas station workers, the hotel people, the taxi drivers, the alternator people have been great. Maybe it’s because they could sense I was one of them that had lost my way. But, it’s more likely that they were always this way and in my stubbornness to label them I just couldn’t see it.
I’m sure there will be more awakenings on this trip. I welcome them with open arms.  cooldude

Generally there are good helpful folks everywhere, it is really not a state thing, it is an American thing.

Not to say there can not be an a$$ in the pile, anywhere, anytime, but it is not the norm.

Here at Inzane, the riding is secondary to the social gathering, IMHO.  And, as a lifelong Texan who has visited many places in the world, I can say that I've always found people kind, even in New York City and behind the Iron Curtain (when it existed).

Texas is a friendly place, mostly conservative but still friendly.  The big cities tend to be more liberal.  But we all get along.

I am proud to say that I did meet you day 1 here and enjoyed our talk.  I am looking forward to meeting Baldo - about to start a game called "Where's Baldo?" if I don't find him today.

Have a great time here.  If it ever stops raining, let's get some wind together!

RainMaker (yeah, it's my fault).

It's been my experience that almost all prejudices break down on the individual level.

It's easy to judge and dislike people. It's a lot harder to judge and dislike a person, when they're standing in front of you talking to you one on one, person to person.

Dealing with individual humans I've only VERY rarely met one I didn't like face to face, be it home in Texas, or Virginia, France, Germany, the Soviet Union, Africa, or even God forbid somewhere like California or New York....

I think you meant genteel.

Regardless, gentile or genteel, are the girls in Virginia that different from girls everywhere else, in what arouses them?  If so, I'm surprised all these web sites that match Russian girls with American men don't switch their focus to Virginian girls.  Shocked

I think most (except Virginian girls, apparently) are now going to avoid your awakening open arms, at least until they (and the rest of you) are fully dressed.

the thought of you sitting out on the deck with just underwear on send shivers down my spine..... not because of the way it looks but because its feaken cold and wet here Tongue

I don't how I would get on if I lived in an area that wasn't full of winding, twisted & crooked roads, so easy to get used to having them

I missed the post about the mechanical woes and good to see all is under control for you again, enjoy the rest of your trip Cheesy

Meathead,
I had a flat on my trailer tire in Hazleton, PA. A gentleman by the name of Tim from Tim's  Towing and Repairs on Harwood Street was so cooperativé to come tow my trailer from I81 to his shop. We rode in his 1969 Custom Sport 442 to get a new tire and he promptly installed it on my trailer. I was off and running by 9 am Saturday morning after Tim had gone to bed at 4am Saturday morning. That is the American way in 99% of the time. Had a great Inzane with my southern neighbors.

It was good to meet you and share the wind together. I'll be honest I wasn't sure if I would like you or not. You are good people I'm glad I got to ride with you and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

What a great last few posts in this thread which prove what I always say. The real riders show up, the keyboard trolls pretty much always stay home

Joe always shows up, (even to a Maggie Valley VOAi ride) and I was so glad to see Whisky take time off work last week also

You have shown all of us that you do as well

Well done

I remember the first responses after you said you were coming to my October ride were "colorful" and I worried nobody else would come    laugh

Yet apart from shenanigans in the back of the van it was a great weekend with you,  Baldo and our conservatives Hook, Gman and myself having a great time and enjoying some nice road winds

Probably did not hurt that there was beer    2funny

Strange how you can see someone on this board in " print " and make a observation of that person... I'm glad we met and just like our meat cutting friend I'd would share the wind with you any day.
