Almost witnessed a biker get rear ended as he turned right without ever knowing the possible danger he was in.

In the center lane in my car going to work south on 3 lane each way 41 B-Town seeing an antsy driver in a black BMW darts into the far-right lane to get around the rest of us going the speed limit. Biker in right lane signals to turn right as car behind brakes to safely let him turn when MR BMW realizes he is not going to be able to stop to avoid hitting the car and unknown to him is the biker in front of this car turning right. Seeing all of this I hit the brakes to allow Mr. BMW to dart in the center lane in front of me.  Do you ever wonder about the things in life we do not see that could have been us?   Saying this a HS buddy was hit and killed on his bicycle last week Thursday in Wisconsin. Looks like he did not know what hit him.

I hear ya.  It makes you wonder what Mr BMW was thinking or why he was in such a big hurry.  All he had to do is kill somebody and his life is ruined forever.  I have also seen bikers going down the center line between 2 rows of cars and that erks me to no end.  It just gives bikers, in general, a bad name.  Let’s try to stay safe out there folks and stay alert.  I hope to be able to ride again soon and meet some of you in person. Take care all.

Iris and I have discussed something like this over the years.  We both are of the opinion that all 4 wheel vehicle drivers should have to take a motorcycle course so they can "see" the situations that bikers are forced to endure.  I suspect Jerry it was partly due to your motorcycle awareness that you were able to analyze the situation and resolve it without either the guy on the motorcycle or Mr. BMW knowing what just happened.  It was kind of one of those pay it forward moments.

No course ,just make them ride for 1 year before being able to drve a car. This would open waaaaaay more eyes than a saftey course.
