Today, June 25th. I attended an event at the Ft. Wayne Korean Memorial . A young lady of Korean descent was there. She is touring the United States (on her dime) to help raise private funds to get the names of the 38,000 KIA and 7,700 MIA's inscribed on the National Korean War Memorial in DC.

So far, she has been to 38 states and today Indiana and Ft. Wayne was on the agenda.  Today was the date of the start of hostilities between North and South Korea and she hopes to end her tour on July 27th, the day the truce was signed.

We had a very nice ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance, The singing of the National Anthum, and presentations by this young lady, Hannah Kim, and other Veterans. We closed with Taps played by a small Group of Oath Takers.

Hannah regards all of us Korean War Vets as her 'grandpas.  We all got a hug and a kiss from her as that is her tradition. Here is a young lady who is going all out for those who helped save South Korea.

A nice morning full of unabashed patriotism and love of country. No politicians of importance were there which made it even better!

No pics, as I can't post them here as I quit Imgur,  but mainly because I forgot to bring a camera and I don't have a smart phone.

Fantastic!

I wish my Dad was still alive, for many reasons, obviously. I think he'd love to hear her story. It would be a little bit of something to take away a small piece of the hell he went through there.

As always, thank you for the story Wayne.

Very cool, nice to see the warriors of the "Forgotten War" getting some long overdue recognition...

Looks like they cut our local celebrity from the news video though, but got to hear your name at least:

Another news article about her visit to Fort Wayne:

And the page for her tour of remembrance:

all wars are terrible but Korea from the 3 Vets I have met was particularly savage from the weather, bad equipment and a poor objective--Talking with them 40 years later they still were post -traumatic--talking with them ..the dilated pupils and looks of horror as the shelling rained down on them....

An incredible gesture of appreciation shown by this young lady!  Such an honorable mission.  I'm glad you are able to attend this very cool event!   cooldude
