Just wanted to ask what is working best? Most days consist of 90 miles round trip to work and back. Two to three miles on each end with about 40 on exspressways. Each way. Rearly anything shorter. It happens just not very often.

Stay with the stock plugs...they're cheap and work great. This motor does not need high end plugs.

Make sure you blow out the spark plug well, you don't want dirt or water going into the cylinder when you remove the plug, and use antisieze on the threads.

snake oil.    cutting back the side electrode of any plug at different lengths does the same thing.  I always cut mine back so that it is halfway across the center electrode. David Vizard does this mod and even more  search him and much will come up.

they work. IMO not worth the money compared to the champions and autolites that have reduced center electrodes also at a reduced cost, for the GL1500 engines.  Iridiums were originally designed for high compression, pressurized race engines which were blowing out the spark of normal plugs.  smaller center electrodes always help reduce the inherent mis-fires that always happen.  some info here based on Dr Jacobs book.  http://www.fierofocus.com/articles/Ray%20Paulk%20Article%20-%20Ignition%20Systems.htm

Thanks, having read article and digested it, thinking about upgrading coils and plus. 20 year old bike runs well but thinking upgrade before a failure, Suggestions again on coils and plug combinations, thanks for input!

2funny I've always felt the same. Jap bikes deserve Jap plugs. 2 strokes even more so.

so if u started in 1978, ('76-'77 on my own, few yrs before that with my dad) then u should know that champions were the plug for many in the 60s and 70s and were very good and in the late 70s early 80s they started to go down. about 10 yrs ago they became good again. I've been using these powersports for  12k miles at this time with great results.  originally started using them in lawn mowers, great results also.

MH please provide the test results, before/after dyno runs that back-up your statement. Because I've read the same anecdotal statements by mechanics on the websites for yrs.

The reason i say they never changed from being bad is this.
Every single time i get called out to a job site because of an engine that isn't running properly. I always find champion plugs in it. Install a good set of autolights.  Problem solved. Heres another one for you. Last year at a car show there was a guy there that had alot of different brands of plugs screwed into a sealed plexiglass box. He had all of them doing their job. Little by little he increased the pressure in the box the same as it would be in a cylinder. Champion plug was the first one to go out and not fire.
