Just got a real nice alternator cover. I want to keep it that way. Any tricks tips to keep it from bubbling/wrinkling?

I put some reflective heat tape on the inside of my last one. So far so good. But I’ve only got 8k on it.

All joking aside take your old one a peel all the chrome coating off of it and have it painted black or to match your bike.

There was a newish giant Ford F-X50 in my rear view the other day. It had a ginormous chrome grill on it. All wrinkled.

The wrinkling is either heat or gas (or other solvent) or both.
Don't get it hot (I think long idling, in the shed or in traffic, is the real problem), and don't spill gas on it.
There's also a bit of randomness to it. One of my bikes cover wrinkled like a 3000yo mummy, and the other is like new. The new replacement one for the mummy is also like new.

If he rides it ....it will get hot....one on my '97 went about 70k miles before wrinkle and no it never had gas on it....I have 3 new spares so not worried about it happening again

Cheep Honda Plastic chrome. My 99 has a wrinkled alt. cover, rear brake lever cover, and one of the front directional lights. The side covers are still nice, I think they are aftermarket.

? Maybe line it with a thin layer of dense foam rubber that has adhesive on one side My bike came with 20 on the clock and a slight wrinkle. Found a NOS, still on the shelf.

The ABS plastic cover, and the chrome it's covered in, expand and contract at different rates when hot. That is what causes the delamination and ultimately the wrinkling of the chrome. Insulating the cover from heat is your best bet....but no guarantee.

One of the first places I noticed chromed plastic was I believe late 70s early 80s on big truck mirrors. Either a dust storm or a sandstorm or the first winter trashed what were passed off as chrome! Far as that alt cover goes while I do in fact ride-not near as much as I used to-the one thing I try very hard to avoid is letting her idle. And I've had the alt cover off a number of times but as Chris stated it DO git waxed along with the rest of the bike. RIDE SAFE,

Just got a real nice alternator cover. I want to keep it that way. Any tricks tips to keep it from bubbling/wrinkling? Where did you find one? I need to replace mine. As well as the right side vanity covers that cover the big void in front of the seat.

As well as the right side vanity covers that cover the big void in front of the seat. A few years ago it was found that Europe still had the covers, at the original price. Can't remember if that was $30 or $60 USD, and they where all bought up within the month. Now they are priced as un-obtainium if you can find them.

I bought mine from Rams. He is parting out a Valk. Like new condition for half the price. I have heard someone saying to line the inside of the cover with cork to insulate it from the heat.
