At the last meeting, there were to be elections to replace Gary (Thank you, Gary!) after 2 years of presidential service but no one nominated accepted and no one volunteered.  Many of the people in attendance had served as President and Vice-President for 2 or more terms so the hope was that someone new would accept the position, duties which include the location of the monthly meeting plus the leader of the talks at the meeting.  At least the start of discussions.

If no one is going to volunteer, then we'll potentially become a chapter without officers, one in which we will end up with a few that take on the responsibility of picking meeting spots and kinda-sorta running a meeting.  It is not optimal but since the pay is really bad, no one wants the job.

Vote for one of the selections.  Please post if you'd like to volunteer for the position or if other ideas.

One could only hope the US congress had such a lackadaisical demand for office holders.

Course the pay is better, and the bribe and corruption money is WAY better.

It's funny, I ride with (but won't join, because I won't attend monthly night meetings inside the beltway in our horrible traffic) a local SCRC chapter.  Once a year they hold officer elections, and if you don't attend that particular meeting, there's a very good chance you will be elected to an office.

IE, being elected to an office is punishment for not attending the meetings.  Grin

Sorry, I have no stake in the TX Chapter, just sharing a similar story.

During it's heyday, we had multiple officers, including vice president, treasurer, ride coordinator, secretary, sgt at arms, etc.  When we stopped collecting a local annual due, we didn't need a treasurer.  Everyone kinda' offers up ride ideas so no need for a ride coordinator.  We drink at some of the meetings so the secretary became a liability.  Etc, etc, etc.  So we only needed one Grand Poobah for 1 or 2 year terms to set up our monthly dinner meeting.   We used to joke about electing someone who didn't show up, but never have done that.  If we had, we would already have our new President for 2018-2019!

I cast my vote to go without, but enjoy the monthly meetings and when teenager activities allow, riding with our group of characters.

I voted get rid of them, but wanted to add an addendum that if someone pops in and actually WANTS the position, they should be considered and if they pass the background check, given the position...

Mark Stovall is the Texas Rep for the VRCC and leads the group, so not quite the same.

I’ve got more skeletons in my closet than Hillary and Bill put together. Besides, I’d likely make Obama Vice President.   Grin

We avoid politics on the Texas chapter board, so I'll just say... All hail the new president and vice president!

You should consider being president of the Austin chapter.  You and your vice-president would love that town.

Mark, I already ran for Austin chapter president. I was soundly defeated in a landslide by Baldo.   Grin
