"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled,
public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be
tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should
be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to
work, instead of living on public assistance."

  Cicero   - 55 BC

Not much I guess ..........

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.

Hopefully we are not on the same road that The Romans chose.

Well, it's perhaps worth noting that Rome continued to be the Western world's only superpower for well over 300 years after Cicero's comments. That's not to dispute his views necessarily but the notion that the Roman Empire failed as a result of not following his advice is simplistic history.

What has been, will be again.  What has been done, will be done again.  There is nothing new under the sun.

I attended a meeting this morning where ALL the "take-a-ways" or "to-do's" that came out of the meeting...were to set up more meetings.

One meeting produced nothing except 4 more meetings.

We're not doing anything but meeting.

Sign of the times.

Looked at it more as a prediction than advice, Rome was truly a long lasting and dominent world power, the end was messy and long lasting. It is very hard to look back and compare or use them as an example but history does seem to repeat itself with most world powers, the main difference being how long they are on top and how hard they fall.

Precisely why I dislike meetings.  cooldude
