So Cal

« on: August 06, 2018, 01:14:28 PM »

After about 3 months of storage in my garage, last night I went to start her and she fire up right up.
This morning again went to start it and it did not. Instead it gave me the tick, tick, tick typical of a dead battery.

While looking further I discovered that the pingle valve was left open since yesterday.
What are the simptons of vapor luck? Shocked

What would you advice me to do? Embarrassed

Paxton.

Pull the spark plugs and see if it turns over, possibly shooting out gas.

I have never heard of a Valk vapor locking.

Hydro lock is when gas enters at least 1 or more cylinders and hydraulic locks the crankshaft.
Liquid occupies the space where a small amount of gas and large amount of air should be.
The gas being liquid cannot compress like the mostly air and some gas can.

So if you hit the starter and the engine does not turn and the battery is good and the starter is working (or trying to), it could be hydro lock.

Do not press the starter again with out following MH's instructions, doing so would risk the starter gears breaking.

Vapor lock, is where the fuel in the fuel line has turned into a vapor. Since it compresses, the liquid fuel will not pass it.

I used to get this in my snow mobile while driving in the warm spring temps, on a glazier. Used to pack snow into the engine compartment to cool it down again and run.

I've never heard of anyone vapor locking a Valkyrie, even in the high temps of the desert during summer.

Hydro lock is the complete opposite, and has been mentioned.

If your starter relay is going "click" and not a "clunk", then try to jump start it. BUT be aware of what the sounds of a hydro lock would be, and NEVER press the starter a second time without removing the spark plugs outside in a clear area (fuel can spray for yards), if you have fuel in the cylinder.
