In re-building "Stinger", I'm going to need an instrument cluster, new or used.  I'm going to want to set the odometer reading to the actual mileage on the bike.  Has anyone had this done before, or know if it can be done to the Interstate cluster?

Most states follow Federal law on this..............

Ya replace the speedo, you put it in as it currently reads.  Used, can be higher or lower, new starts at ZERO.

The mechanical ones were easy to change, never played with the electronic ones as it has a VERY STIFF fine if ya get caught dicking with it.

Kind of like taking a CAT off of a vehicle and not replacing it...   You can play all ya want behind the CAT, but you are very limited in front of it.......................

The muffler shop that used to be just in front of our shop got caught.

He backed the car out and parked it at the curb.    Fed's came in, told him he had 2 hours to get it corrected or he would be slapped with a $175,000 fine..............   It was a bait car................

Find a shade tree mech and all is good!  cooldude My 85  chevy truck was 1/2 'desmogged' and I finished the rest. Cat was missing already.  ??? I needed headers put on and not one of the 5 muff places would do it. Took it to a ford race guy, who will do shady work, and he did it for lest the $75.  Lips Sealed

I got a wrecked speedo last winter due to needing a interal part for mine. i believe i could flip the numbers over with a screw driver. I'll see tomorrow if I still have it and let you know later that night. Hardest part would be getting to the numbers on a good unit. What miles are looking to get near? If mine are close i'll give you the guts.

Previous owner crashed this bike twice takin' out the speed-o and tach on both crashes. It's on it's 3rd now and I talked to him about the mileage on both the other two. The one on it now I bought new shows right at 16,000 ( without going to look ) so the bike has in the neighborhood of 50,000 miles on it  Undecided   Good luck if you want down to the last current mile on another one.

GUYS!  The odo is digital on the Interstate - No wheels to spin.  Would have to be done by a speedo shop, if it's possible at all. Just wondering if anyone has had it done.  I'd really like to keep the mileage accurate.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to do. A quick goggle search pulled up units for sale to change them on cars such as this one. http://www.odometerwizard.com/ You just have to check and ask around at shops.

I've heard Speedo Shops can do this Such as DIck's Speedo here in Phoenix Az But that was for cars.

You might be able to swap out some of the electronics from your old one or are they all busted up?

And here I thought I was the only one who turned odometers forward.
I don't see that the law should care if you're resetting it to accurate.  If that's real, it's probably just a "easier to enforce than a logical law" thing.  I'd blow off the legal part.

Unfortunately, I've only adjusted mechanical ones.  Wanted to swap out a gauge on my truck, but one thing that's held me back is the electronic odo.  Didn't want to deal with that.
I don't imagine they made it easy to adjust, since the most common usage would be a dishonest one.  It might be easier to reset it to zero by shorting some contact to ground and erasing the memory.  I know that's not what you're after, but it's better than what you've got...

I contacted these people

And they confirmed they can reprogram my odometer, but their service is NOT cheap!

try the low tech. take the sensor off hook up a variable speed motor(very small) to the sensor
turn it on and let it run up to the requested number.
should be able to pick up a small motor like that from a hobby shop.

IF my "precise calculation" is tight about 750 rpm should give you 60 mph. of course i could be WAY off. Evil

If you know how to communicate with the device (I'm not aware of a diagnostic connector on the valk, but maybe the dealer has something they plug into the cluster) you should be able to write a new mileage into memory.  If it was me I would put a label (tape or label makeer if you want to get fancy) with the fudge factor ie +1200 or -2500, depending on the diff between current and new.

I really don't think this is going to help since it's not designed for the Valkyrie, but...

I got incredibly lucky!

Pinwall had an instrument cluster with 23,746 miles on it.
My old one had 23,574 on it.
Just what are the chances of finding one that close?

That company I referenced earlier wanted $250 plus shipping to re-set the odo, but I just didn't trust that they knew Valkyries.

This latest find beats the heck out of the first replacement I bought with 63K on it.

Anyone need a cluster with 63K on it?

Are they changable?  I also would like to raise what it shows to reflect what I have on the bike.
