just curious  On a flag pole or mounted off the front porch or somewhere else

I know carolinarider does plus an extra and I seem to recall Solo1 as well but its been awhile since I was at his place.

Sound off and any other flags flying

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL POST  (No REP or Dem comments please) JUST WHO FLIES OUR FLAG

Pics would be cool as well

Mine is on the right going onto my porch mounted to a support post for the roof

I've had an old-timey porch flag holder I got from a salvage yard years
ago to hang on the doric columns on my front porch that I got years
ago at a salvage yard.

But I haven't built my front porch yet  crazy2 ...

Sometimes I'm the only one on the street.
Sometimes I have to pick up the neighbor's because his blows down.

I do. I have a 20 foot flag poll my dad put up years ago when he owned the house. I took the flag down the other day due to a storm with high winds so I need to put it back up. It also has a timed light on it for night. Although over the years the Magnolia tree next to it has grown a lot and is now to close to the poll. I am thinking of moving the poll closer to the house.

On ocassion I will fly the 13 star "Betsy Ross" flag with the Gadsden "don't tread on me" flag under it. There are several houses on my street that also fly the flag as well..

I'm unfortunately renting and it seems the HOA (Home owners association) would give me crap if I did it.

That being said, when I finally manage to buy a house, an American flag + 1 sign defending the 2th amendment are my top priorities.

I have a very nice flag, but not all weather (and it is not lit, and must come down at night).  It flies from a mount on a 90yo oak tree with very good visibility.

I fly it on the important (not all) national holidays and other times when appropriate (like the last national election).

It is often the only flag I see in my neighborhood (though it's a huge neighborhood, and no fun to ride around in looking for flags (or anything else).

There only a few homes on one road and I fly the Flag on the front porch. I've tended to forget to bring it in at night so often I just mounted a small light to shine on it.
in Florida a flag came with the house but not a mount which i thought was a bit odd, so i mounted one on the car port. The street light keeps it lit nicely. A couple folks have asked why I do that. How do you respond to that. i just politely say that if you have to ask such a question,,,,,,,

Exactly what I have. except mine may only be a 25 foot pole and I fly the Gadsden flag under the Red/White and Blue.

Been that way since I finished building the house.

I do,
I have a flag mounted next to the front door right over the porch light that goes on at dusk.
The only time it is taken in is when severe weather is headed our way.

There are about 20 houses on my street, and at last count there were 5 that flew the flag. It helps that I live in an old neighborhood, ( with a lot of senior citizens ) you know, the people that remember what the flag is all about.

I’ve had a flag outside my house for so many years I can’t remember when I first started.

I use a Valley Forge “Presidential Series” and they last pretty much a whole year before needing to be retired. I buy them at Home Depot, usually 3-4 at a time, they’re kinda hard to come by sometimes. The flag is out almost every day with the exception of severe weather.

There’s nothing like looking out the front door and seeing Old Glory or turning the corner coming home and there she is. Unfortunately with the exception of my neighbor across the street there isn’t another out there on my block.

I've flown the flag off of my house for many years. Had it when I lived in south Florida, and it now has a new home here in north Florida. Not lit so it comes down at night and put back up in the morning.

At my old house I flew the American and Texas flags off the front of the garage everyday (didn't have a light so took them down every Sundown).

At this new house I don't have one up yet, but I did scarf-up an old flagpole from the neighbor he wasn't using (probably not for a number of years) and as soon as we get done with our front drive I intend to install it in the front yard and I'll get my S-I-L, who owns an electric company, to rig up lighting for it so I can proudly show my patronage 24/7.

I have one on the front porch mounted near the front door. AND my Flag was Manufactured right here in the U S of A.  cooldude Ex wife 2 asked why I spent so much on a Flag? Cuz NO WAY NO HOW wuz a flag made in china gonna be on my house! Evan-you've seen my I/S and I STILL Always have an American Flag mounted to the rack on the trunk. And da prez fabbed up a poll and mount for the trailer hitch on my I/S so I can have the Big American Flag on P G R missions and Parades.
As an aside my love affair with this Country and It's Flag started a long time ago and when called upon to defend Our Flag I NEVER hesitated. Had American Flag patches on my flight suit my flight helmet and my U S Navy flight jackets. All 3 of my riding jackets and my vest have an American Flag on it somewhere where it-The Flag-is readily visible. And-YES-I KNOW I strayed a bit from your original question!  2funny BUT to my Credit I never mentioned p------s til right there!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

It had been a few years since I flew the Flag except on Memorial Day and 4th of July.  This year though, I put the Flag up on the 25 ft pole in my front yard a few days before Memorial Day and it is still there.  There is a street light at the corner of my yard and it lights my Flag.  I intend to repair the ground mount lights to shine on it also but have not done that yet.  Two other houses in my subdivision flew the Flag from their front porch on Memorial Day and then put them back away.

I fly the same.  All day, every day.
The last couple of years, when I fly my kite, I hang a flag from the string just below the kite.  Because it's usually around 350 ft. high I got a 4X6 flag for better visibility.  I've flown it at night with a light meant for underwater photography.
A lot of people and many Vets thank me for fling it.

That's what I do (smaller flag & pole) for the season where Vix & I have an RV trailer on a permanent site https://www.pearllakecampsite.com/home and at home I have a flag vertical inside the full glass front storm door, where it's backlit from behind. I realize it's not a requirement for a flag to be illuminated at night, but I prefer my solar flood that shines on the flag at the trailer, just because.

That's not the way I understand it. I was taught a flag was to be either lowered at sunset or lit up.

I've heard of this before with HOA covenants . It has got to be the most ridiculous rule I've heard. I'd have a hard time living somewhere that told me my vehicle couldn't be parked in the driveway. I think I'd be the neighborhood pariah if they told me I couldn't fly our country's flag.

The old house had a porch pole that I would fly a flag on holidays, election days, or just when I wanted to. The new diggs has a 30 ft flag pole on the corner of the property but the rotten cottenwoods have it so choked I won't use it until the cottenwoods come down. I may consider a light there as well. The new place is a work in progress and the spouse has her priorities (like finish the kitchen, small details like that).

meathead,
I believe you are correct, at one time there was a requirement to light the flag when flown at night.
If I am not mistaken, that changed during the energy crunch or crisis, (or what ever you want to call it) of the 70's.
I clearly remember them dropping that part of the etiquette as it was the year I bought my first house and flag.

I still have mine lighted mainly because of pride.

Did you notice that the link you referred to in the above post did not mention lights at night?

About halfway down is this section.

"The flag should be raised briskly and lowered slowly and ceremoniously. Ordinarily it should be displayed only between sunrise and sunset. It should be illuminated if displayed at night."

I'm no expert on the subject of flag display, and I could be completely mistaken. But some things I do remember from my Navy service 40 years ago. After Boot Camp it's all a drug and alcohol fog.  2funny just kidding (well, kind of)

Maybe. I didn't go in the Navy till '78. I probably was told flag etiquette as a kid, but I don't remember.

Very visible mount on the corner of my porch, 25ft pole, 3' x 5' flag, solar light so it can stay up 24/7. Sadly we are the only one on our street, proud to hear all you guys displaying old glory !
Thank you to all of you who served to keep our freedom and I feel we should all display our appreciation in some way and flying the flag is a great way.
